I have a 95 civic and the stock speakers are absolutely brutal, so I want to replace the speakers. Found some cheap ones on amazon with awesome reviews, but I don't know what amp to get. The speakers themselves are 4 ohm 180 Watts RMS / 360 Watts Max and I would be getting four of them (2 front, 2 back). I have absolutely no clue about car audio, but I assume I need a 4 channel amp with around 1400 amps?

I have the same car, and an amp isn't needed unless you're going to use a sub.

More often than not get a new radio receiver: Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood.

As for speakers don't touch anything made in China by a brand that's not a pedigree/house hold name. You're better off putting a Sony dollar store radio in your car instead of those speakers.

Also your back speakers located by the neck rest(rear seat) can hold larger speakers than 6.5. I believe the speaker placement is an oval shape.

Thanks for the reply Fightingfan. My head unit is really crappy and can only put out 45w x 4 channels, and many people said in the reviews that when the speakers are hooked up with an amp the sound quality is greatly increased, I could stand corrected don't know much about audio. So do you think its not even worth it to get an amp?

Yes they'll sound better with an amp, but only if you're trying to listen to your music extremely loud.

Buying a better radio receive will also increase your sound quality by providing more wattage.

Personally, I would recommend updating your radio receive, and build your setup from there.

If you're trying to be somewhat cheap I recommend Memphis Car Audio(3 year warrant if you let a dealer install them) - I use them, and their products have been fine. I blew 4 speakers after 4 years of ownership, but I believe that's due to my negligence of letting an idiot install my HID kit.

^They don't make radio receivers.

@Fightingfan: Yes I am trying to keep this as cheap as possible. Going for $100 or less and the speakers are $40 so I have $60 remaining for an amp or something. I was thinking about a new head unit a while ago, but they are so darn expensive. So I think it will be cheaper to just buy an amp with the speakers. I can't seem to find one with the right wattage though. Is this correct... I need an amp with 4 channels with each channel outputting +-25% 180W RMS at 4 ohms?

Yeah, single Din radios are expensive(that aren't shit). I had to pay like $600 for my single din pioneer that's a flip touch screen.

Too be honest, I can't help you in that price range. I say put it on hold until you have about $300-350

@Fightingfan: Alright no problem but am I correct with the wattage there? The speakers are 180RMS @ 4 ohms, so the amp needs to output about that per channel?

You'll need an ampler that does 180-200 watts amp @ 4ohms, and a 200 watt amp can power (2) 8 ohm speakers with 180-200 watts.

I'm ignorant on anything in that wattage though.

@Fightingfan: Ok thanks for the help, i'll just continue the search for an amp with the correct wattage. From all the reviews these speakers are really good, and for such a good price I can't complain.

I would spend extra and get these speakers: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-G6844R-4-Ohm-2-Way-Speakers/dp/B0065XBGCC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1389671950&sr=1-1&keywords=pioneer+6844r

In whatever size you need. They're still pretty cheap, but they sound really good for the price. I can't see those Pyles sounding very good. Probably better than stock, but not as good as these. And of course, you need a good head unit, or the speakers will be a waste of money. Any name brand one will do.

@KABCOOL: No. That is a two channel amp. you would need a four channel amp.

@KABCOOL: I own a car audio company and there is a lot you have to consider before you buy an amp. There is wattage, whether nominal or peak, there is watts at what omage. whether 8, 4, 2, 1 or .5. there is how you want the speakers installed, whether bridged or not. which channel you want the speakers on. what gauge the amp takes on the 12v side. how much amperage the amp takes. the protect range of the amp. and finally, the true nominal wattage the amp delivers.

@Zelda99: Sounds like your the guy I need to talk to, BTW thanks for the help I am basically clueless. So if I am running 4 of these speakers and they are 4 ohm 180 Watts RMS / 360 Watts Max, I would need a four channel amp with each channel putting about 360 watts? Seems like so much.

Edit: Would my head unit which is like 45w x 4 be fine or would something like this greatly increase the sound quality?

Okay, you would need a an amp that plays at around 200 watts per channel, nominal (the same as RMS) which is basically the average watt the amp is supposed to output to the speakers. So ideally you want a 4 channel amp that is about 800 watts rms, and outputs 200 watts per channel. this will power your 180 watt RMS speakers. For future reference, RMS is what to look at. if a speaker is 100 watts RMS, you should put around 100 watts on it. Max is the maximum watts a speaker can take before it blows or seases, so you speakers require at least 180 watts to perform their best and anything above 360 can damage or break them.

Please be aware that buying cheap amps will lead to "cheap power." Many cheap amp will greatly exaggerate their RMS. It may say 1,200 RMS on the box, but puts out less than 400. Many amps don't name the exact RMS on the box. cheaper ones exaggerate and high end ones usually understate their RMS. So you dont want a cheap amp, you want a good one that at least comes close to what the box says it can do.

@Zelda99: I can't find any amps on amazon with specifications like this, they are all either 400w amps that don't have enough juice or 1600/2000w amps that have too much. If I don't care about the Front/Rear, Left/Right, can I just get a mono or dual channel amp or is that not a feasible option?

Mono means one channel, which is for subwoffers. You can do a dual channel amp as long as you understand what that means. If you connect two speakers to one channel then the speakers will play the same thing. That may seam fine, but music has panning and sounds sometimes only play in one particular channel. you could hook up the back two speakers to one 400 watt channel and the front two to another 400 channel, but the front left and rear left will playing the same thing and the front right and rear right will play the same thing. its kind of like listening to headphones where both sides play only the left speaker. what ever the right receives will be completely left out.

that's why a 4 channel amp is used so each speaker gets a channel and each speaker gets the intended source. Also you cannot adjust the volume on all four speakers, only on two at a time. This means if the back speakers are louder than the fronts, you cant do anything about it. now if you really dont want to buy a 4 channel amp or you dont care about not hearing everything in a song, you can buy a two channel, but i would not recommend it.

You may want to consider buying a cheap 4 channel that says 1,600 watts or something. if its cheap, it will play considerably less watts, and if plays more watts than what your speakers can handle, you can always turn down the level (or power) the amp puts out to match your speakers.

@KABCOOL: You are welcome. Look into Crunch amps by Maxxsonics. I've been using them i first started out and they really did the job. In fact here, i found a good amp that fits your criteria.http://www.amazon.com/Crunch-Power-PZA1600-4-Channel-Amplifier/dp/B004XCC95K/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1389678925&sr=8-9&keywords=crunch+amp
