Have this old wood stuff with long chimney sticking out and don't use it anymore. Want to close it up. Whats best way and would just putting garbage bag on it be a bad idea? Not sure what kind of condensation it would cause doing that.

What? I have no idea what part of the chimney you are talking about, but I do know that 'putting a garbage bag' over something never resolves a problem in life. If you could explain it better or include some pictures...we may be able to help.

If it's an inside fireplace, you can purchase metal covers which insert into the opening of the fire place and essentially seal it off on the inside. As for sealing the stack portion located on the roof I can't really answer much about it. As long as there's a cap on top of it to prevent animals from getting down in it then you probably shouldn't worry about it too much.
