They were all over NPR for firing Juan Williams, but when their own boss and the owners of Fox News, News Corporation get's in trouble for doing things that are FAR WORSE, they are trying to ignore or blaming the "left wing media" for exaggerating the situation. Heck, you even had someone who helped whistle blow the case found dead. And senior people at News Corporation getting arrested by the police.

Talk about hypocrisy and double standards. Fair and balanced my a$$.

Other media stations don't report certain news stories as well so I really don't see a problem.

You really think that a company is going to give a fair portrayal of their parent company's scandals?

I just like how they say he apologized, and that therefore the media should stop covering the scandal, when the corruption that is surrounding this scandal is still far from fully unconvered. Just today one of the top whistle-blowers turned up dead.

But wouldn't that go against their "fair and balanced" motto. If they are indeed "fair and balanced" they would report it and talk about it just like all the other media outlets are doing and not blame the "left wing media" for the situation which was their OWN doing. Oh wait, I think I answered my own question. ;)

metroidfood

This, it's stupid and I do think that in a perfect world of journalism ethics Fox News would be covering the story with more vigor, but plenty of other stations would also ignore a story if their parent company were involved. What really gets me is the way Fox News blames everyone else, and acts like the media is creating this story from nothing, when their is clearly a significant amount of facts that warrants reporting. Then they start talking about how the other stations should be reporting on hard news.

Well guess what, this qualifies far more as hard news than: Common rapping at the White House, Balloon Boy, Charlie Sheen, the Bronx Zoo Cobra, and a thousand other stories that cable news stations, including Fox, get fixated on.

That being said I have seen nothing in their history to suggest they wouldn't do this type of thing.

Because, sadly, a lot of people get their opinions from it, so we should know how to counter their ridiculous claims. Same goes for any other sort of low quality news outlet.

I am still waiting for a response as to how Fox commentators like Hannity claimed that the White House spent $200 million on President Obama's trip to India. Does, commentators on Fox even bother to listen to what comes out of their mouths. Do you really think the President would spend almost a quarter of a billion dollars on a foreign trip? Wouldn't even common sense would tell you that is incorrect. Guess not.

He used to be the editor of another tabloid The Mirror - not one of Murdochs. He was thought of pretty poorly back then (in the 90s) - nasty piece of work...

Saw a few things on reddit the past few days about how much damage control (and lack of coverage) this has gotten with them. No surprise though. Fox is a terrible news station and I truly do feel sorry for the people who use it as their only source of information.

And the hilarious thing is that, according to multiple studies, Daily Show viewers are still better informed about current events than Fox News viewers. I believe they're even better informed than all of the 24/7 news network viewers, but I could be wrong about that.

Surprisingly, shows like The Daily Show have just as much 'substance' as what traditional news outlets like Fox have.

According to this article I found (No Joke: A Comparison of Substance in The Daily Show with Jon Stewardand Broadcast Network Television Coverage of the 2004 Presidential Election Campaign, by Fox et al), there was no signficant difference in the average amounts of video and audio substance per program.

The average time spent in a given 30 minute timeslot for the Presidential campaign was 135.40 seconds for Network News, whilst The Daily Showspent 233.16 seconds per story. The amount of 'video substance' was only 9.03% of broadcast time for Network news, and 8.89% for The Daily Show.

A concluding summary from that report was basically that The Daily Showhad humour where Network News had hype, and if you take those away you are left primarily with the same information.

Fox News is a joke. It's not news. It's a pro-conservative Tabloid.

They have as much legitimacy as the National Enquirer.

From FoxNews:

The scandal has captivated audiences from America to Murdoch's native Australia, and there's more to come; only a fraction of some 3,870 people whose names and telephone numbers were found in News of the World files have been contacted by police so far. It remains unknown how many of those names were targeted for hacking.

Doesn't exactly seem like they are avoiding the scope of this thing. But, as usual, people see what they want to.

Everyone is talking about their broadcast coverage, especially when compared to other scandals. Not the AP article they pasted on their website.

Here's a link of them getting caught saying they're not gonna talk about the scandal. HERE

It seems as this thing gets bigger and bigger, they can't avoid it anymore and have to give it some air time. Especially since people are starting to point out their lack of coverage.

It's really incredible how some people at Fox are trying to deflect blame from Murdoch and News Corp.

Take this editorial for instance. I don't even know how this opinion can exist:
(Those of you with better things to do might not know that the media mogul Murdoch is being questioned about the tactics some of his reporting staff undertook, including wire taps, paying for news tips and generally beating the competition to shreds with scoops. In response, politicians are clamoring for a chance to say – on camera – how horrified they are about the entire ordeal. Simply horrified.)

Whoever wrote that actually thinks that Murdoch is being questioned because he beat the competition to scoops. :|

Murdoch owns them, so they shut the hell up. Simple. Of course, criticizing the media for actively covering this is FOX News at it's finest and most blatantly right wing. These are the people who went ape-**** over NPR, a scandal completely of their own creation, which did not even involve an arrest or death, but think that the media devoting lots of coverage to an enormous scandal consuming one of the largest media outlets in Britain that involves felony, murder, and goes all the way up to the Prime Minister, is left-biased reporting.

Wrong, viewers of the Colbert Report and the Daily Show are actually LESS informed than all 3 of the major cable news networks. However, this is immediately counteracted by the fact that Jon Stewart actually had the integrity to admit this ON AIR. Also, he has always said that he provides fake news.

They also went ape-**** over one of the most non-explicit rappers out there reading a poem at the White House. They've gone crazy over boobs being shown in an M-rated videogame. Yet they say this is a non-story? The hypocrisy here is really incredible even for Fox.

Fox News isn't actually fair and balanced?
