I can't stand living here for many, many reasons, anyone else feel this way? International posts are also welcome; why are you tired of America?
P.S. I do plan on moving, so all you "Why don't you move then" people can save it.

Probably not, there are about 50 countries I can think of off the top of my head that are far better then America. And yes, I've been to some of them.

I am tired of the desiscions our government keeps making. I love America and I am glad I live here but I really wanna live abroad for quite a few years..Maybe for the rest of my :?honkyjoe

I really want to move to BC Canada after finishing college.
Being brief, I don't like America because of it's hijacked government; businessmen, corporations, and lobbying has more influence on policy in this country then any other entity in the country. They completely subvert democracy(or what's left of it) from the people.
We spend so much money on our military and our world empire, while our education system is one of the worst of any developed nation in the world and we have millions living below the poverty line.
About 75% of the people in this country are the most apathetic, complacent, and unenlightened group of people I've ever known. We have the audacity to vote on something that we knew nothing about, then ***** about it a few years later when it is biting us in the ***. We care about Football, American Idol, and buying that cool SUV more then we care about how badly our government is royally screwing us.
These are, as plainly and simplistically as possible, the reason why I can't stand this country.

I understand the Americas are a continent and that the name "Americans" usually applies to only those of US residence but there is a reason.
I don't think the Canadians or Mexicans would take is kindly to being called Americans. To them it might seem really rude. Many people enjoy their nationality and while the name Americans may not make much sense as a name logically, its a much better name then "United Statians"
Also TC, America is a beautiful country with mostly nice people, go on a road trip and visit the Grand Canyon, or the Redwoods or check out Luisiana for some good cooking. Just avoid Las Vegas and you'd be all set. Every country is awesome in its own way... well the ones who are not warzones... but if the reason you want to leave is because of being disgruntled with the governemnt then never fear, we got a great voting system to recycle our politicians. Too bad that recycle system is slow as hell...
Anyway, heck you should go on some world tour, enjoy the world for what it offers and maybe when you get back you won't be so disgruntled with your own country.

I can't say I've gone on a world tour, but every place I've been outside the US (about 10 countries) have all been better. M'kay, you're defending and explaining yourself, which is good. But you're also pulling a statistic out of thin air, and using that to generalize the American population. Do you think people are less intelligent in America than other places? Is Canada a huge leap? Sure, the government is a bit different, but you're still going to encounter stupid, ignorant, spoiled people. Some of that is being a Westerner, most of that is being a human.
If you have a stable job then how can you possibly get tired of America.

I know the stat is not entirely accurate, and I also know that ignorant people are ubiquitous everywhere, but there are a far higherconcentrationof them here in the US then anywhere else I have been. Many European countries, Canada, and several South American and Asian countries score way better then Americans on standardized tests, and crank out more graduate level professionals then we do. I'd rather not leave America, sure it has problems but the real kicker is trying to fix those problems. People usually leave countries out for safety or family. If you leave a totalian regime that will kill ya I can understand but if you are just disgruntled with a country for a few kinks then you need to re-evaluate your standing.
Instead you should go for the "How can I fix it?" approach. You can take a part in making this country better, go work at a soup kitchen, take a standing position in your community to help people. Actively try to make it a better place. Lead by example. Heck if you are interested in politics become one youreself and actually go for the throat in making it a better country.
Don't become an Expatriote because you are tired of some issues, write your congressman, participate in a protes, do something.
This may sound like a childish cartoon on "how to help" but in reality not many people take part in these activities. I am sure that if people actually did, there would be a much better America. Hell one of the clubs in my school has a motto of "Be the change you wish to see in the world."
I know it sounds gimmicky and childish and a lot of work but it is something that makes something of your life. It is a purpose.

I wish it were that simple, but it is hard when your government is run by banks, oil, and the military. You can vote who ever you want into office, they will simply become a pawn of these money juggernauts. Why do you think we don't have affordable healthcare for everyone, why do you think we Really went to Iraq, why do you think emission standards have stayed the same for so long? It is because of these thieves that have stolen our government from us. I have tried to do many of these things you speak of, in fact my profession deals with a lot of them, but I alone will never change it all. I am simply a person in a country of only a few others that know and do as I do. We are a very small minority, and frankly I am not going to waste my time on something that is so broken. I would rather move to a country that has a functional system of government and democracy; something the US has been lacking for almost a century. I wish it were different, but I am a realist, not a blind optimist.

meh, I don't really do any of those things I mentioned.
But I still do not believe the US is hopeless or broken. I'd say, misguided. Also certainly not worth saving.
That's right, just because we realize life is hard anywhere that means we are all ignorant fools. No matter what anyone says... if it's against america... you will believe it, no matter how cliche and convenient it may be or is. I would make something up to contradict it but I just don't believe in starting rumors. The myth busters currently have more myths than they can handle. 70% of the time they are full **** anyway. Busting myths with more myths... BRILLIANT!! As for that figure. I say 70 as in 7/10. It's a rough estimate.
Here in the U.S we have more professionals than we can employ so what's the point of comparison? "OOH! According to this story we have all these Einsteins and since our economy is based on magic or some other crazy unrealistic system of employment HEY, you! You're hired for no reason and HERE! Here's a bag of money too."
Since when has an aptitude test or anything beyond the 6th grade applied to adult life? In the real world you find out that more many of the brightest students are the most incompetent employees. Anyone with half of a working brain can memorize text books. Memorizing is easy. That's why they are called nerds and dorks because they are essentially stupid. They're like comuters, they store data but that's all they are good for.
There is different kinds of smart. Book smart is the easiest because you don't actually have to do anything other than read it and remember.
