I've just been debating, I don't have an Apple TV and not really sure if I want one considering I have an Xbox 360. It just seems like it might ever match the quality of the Video Marketplace and in terms of broad content, because Microsoft has quite the comfortable lead on Apple. I mean the 360 really has it all-- movies, TV shows etc. I don't think I'll be buying one for awhile unless Apple TV shows something that my 360 can't do.

What are your guys thoughts on Apple TV? I know it just came out, and of course it's going to suck. I am just wandering what Job's is going to do to make me spill some money. I love the iPod, just not sure about the Apple TV thing.

So it plays movies and music from your PC.. the 360 does that, plays games, and is only £70 more expensive. Out of those 2, I'd get the 360. And seeing as you already have a 360, there's no point getting Apple TV

To be honest, it sounds kind of cool. But I'm just not sure about it. I might buy one in a year or two, but it just seems like it's not really worth it right now. I know a few people that like it(mostly Apple junkies), but majority of people say its not worth it.

I never heard of apple tv before this thread.  After looking at on Wikipedia I can safely say there was a reason for that.

Just stick with the 360.

If you would even consider taking advice from an apple junkie that would void the advice of nearly 3/4 of gamespot forum users.

No, it's a pretty poor first attempt at such a device on Apple's part. It plays videos, sure...but only two formats, and it's limited to 5mbps streams, so it can't even handle the 720p movie trailers up on Apple's site. You're limited to about 640x480, which is what movie downloads from iTunes are...which is lower resolution than DVDs, making it garbage for the very high definition TVs they're aiming at.

Really, the device is a failure in almost every way.

It can't even record programs on TV, which just goes to show that they are using this as a way to try to get you to pay for more iTunes videos.

So, nooooooooooooo.  I have an iPod, but other than that, Apple can kiss my behind. I swear they'd be worse than Microsoft if only they could get the same installed base Windows has, and the worst part is all of the goofy "Macolytes" who think Apple actually gives a crap about them and not just reaming them for every penny they can get. Seriously, why are all Apple products priced like they don't even look at the competition's pricing?

I also concur.

1. Never get a first generation machine.
2.  I'm waiting for high def content on iTunes to even consider this purchase.
3.  I'd also like 1080i or even 1080p support for this

It is not any good but CNET is rarely reliable on anything important.

Say you've downloaded Cars from iTunes. Instead of watching it on your computer, wirelessly sync the flick to Apple TV.Then pull up a seat, put up your feet, and play your movie on TV. Give yourself a hand: You've just changed theway you watch digital media.

I think that purchasing anything through iTunes is stupid, so no.

If they ever did away with this copy protection nonsense, which is silly anyway because if I wanted to pirate stuff, it's probably already out there for download on on of the fifty bajillion bittorrent sites anyway, that might be a step towards changing my "tune."
