I just moved out to Vancouver about a month ago and my girlfriend loves dogs but she still lives at home and her parents don't want a dog to stink up their house. I gave it a thought and thought it might be fun to have a dog around. What do you guys think?

I have 2 dogs currently.

+ they're fun and cute, walks can be enjoyable (especially if you and your girlfriend go together)
- picking up after them, and some dogs leave a lot of hair around

And by the way, if your girlfriend breaks up with you, dogs are a great way to pick up chicks when you need another.

Ahh good thinking mah man. I actually know a dude, he got a Chihuahua specifically cause all girls think that they're cute, and he has picked up MANY young women with the dog, it ALWAYS breaks the ice and starts up a conversation. As great as it sounds I really don't think I would get a lapdog. Especially a Chihuahua. Too yelpy

Unless you plan on raising champion showdogs, dogs are not an investment.

It depends on what you want it for. I have had a hunting dog in my life since i was born, And I really don't see the point of having a dog unless it's trained. I see people with dogs all the time that don't listen, don't come, don't stay, pee in the house, etc. and the people DON'T CARE. They still love it! anyway, unless you take the time to train it at least the bare minimum, it's stupid. I love dogs though!

They're good company.

If you get a decent sized dog with a loud bark they're a pretty good deturant for robery. Once you have them potty trained it's pretty smooth sailing.
