That title made me laugh. But they're probably fine. Ann Coulter says radiation is good for you so no worries.

when they ship? shipping over seas can = more then two weeks and i think most of that time is spent in customs getting scanned and check by sniffer dogs... but i could be wrong.

I wouldn't be extremly concerned about it, you might want to find out if it is radioactive though just to be safe but I'm sure if it is radiactive it's at a safe level.

Wow, I hate the media more and more every day. Your package is fine, even if there was any radiation in it it would be so little you probably absorb more harmful radiation from the sun in one day.

Um... if that's a serious question then of course they are. Unless your package was routed directly through one of the affected nuclear plants (and sat there for a day), there is no chance of any extra irradiation...

As far as I've been informed by the national health commision at work, packages and letters from Japan aren't harmful.

I'm saddened that people actually think anything from Japan would be un-safe because of the recent events. I can guarantee you are soaking up at least a hundred times the radiation from looking out your window, or staring at this computer screen to read my message, then any extra then normal using that product. Besides, I can also nearly guarantee that those headphones were packaged and such way before the incidents from Fukishima. So seriously OP, I hope you were joking with this thread. If you were not, then you have other things to worry about then radiation..

If you've already handled to package it's too late. Have fun with the hair loss and vomiting.

uh everything in your home near enough emits Radiation in some way the difference is it isn't enough to be a serious health risk your package should be fine im sure if had been in Japan at the time of the crisis it would have been scanned not that a little Radiation on a package could really hurt you as the levels have to be high just don't eat it :P.

This is exactly the sort of paranoia that I keep saying the media propagates through their irresponsible yellow journalism. Yes, your package is safe, unless it was made from material located in one of the reactors, and unless you eat it. Nothing from Japan is going to kill you. Don't worry.

Not because of the incidents, but all packages go through screeners. There's a reason you can't mail a nuke into most civilized countries.

All packages? Really? My understanding is that only a fairly small portion of packages get a security check, though I can't find any sources to back that up. Just something that I seem to recall having read, though that was in relation to bulk cargo containers sent on ships.

Expect to grow another arm soon. Seriously though, why don't people know how radiation works? Part of the blame definitively falls on the media for causing this hysteria. Anyway, take physics.

exposing something to radiation does not make that item in itself become radioactive. just as if you get an x-ray you do not be come radioactive. irradiationg food is a fairly common practice of exposing food to doses of radiation to kill bacteria and viruses without damaging the fruit its self. however it does not make the food radioactive.

as gabu said unless its made from stuff in the ractor its fine. this is just fear mostly propogated by uninformed media.

Depends on how close and if the package was even exposed to the radiation. I'm assuming the plant contained alpha, beta, gamma, and neutron particles. If it was close enough it could've in fact exposed your package to beta, gamma and neutron particles. No idea why people in this thread are saying radiation is not a big deal, being exposed to these types of radiation can cause long term medical problems with the possibility of developing cancer. Don't compare the sun to these types of radiation, sun will not penetrate the skin(under regular conditions). Neutron and Gamma pretty much goes through anything and can cook your insides. Is your package going to be radioactive? No. Harmful? No. But is there a possibility of it being exposed? Yes.

I think it is all? Maybe they focus on packages from other countries? Who knows. There are definitely radiation screenings for some, if not all, packages.

But it was serious! You get radiated every single day from the Earth, things you use (read: mobile phones and radios, among other things that use radio waves), even from outer space. Radiation is part of our life, whether we like it or not. If TC is scared of a package coming from Japan, without even knowing if it came anywhere near Fukushima at any given time (before and after the catastrophe), then he should be scared of living in most modern nations.
