"A venerated vaulting of veracious vitality

Vainly vying with volcanic virtuousity"

and this

"In my emaciated days of tortuous irretention

A hestitative fascinator quelled a taintless ambition"

believe or not both lyrics are from the same damn song called 'Wroth Volcanic Vent' by Pavor. Even the title is pretentious

There's a good chance they are. I never got these 'lol let's use a lot of adjectives so nobody knows wtf we're talking about' type of lyrics.

Looking at your avatar and signature at the same time could cause a seizure. :|

On topic: I said "What?" to myself twice while reading the lyrics.

i think if you're the artist and you know what the words mean, and if the words make sense together, which they seem to, then it's not pretentious. personally, i think this person was going for a particular effect. it's a poetic convention called "consonance:" a repetition of consonant sounds within words. it's been done many, many times. like this... "'stop staring at Stan's stupid step-sister,' she said shamelessly."

Canibus definitely has skills on the mic but I agree he can be pretentious as hell with his phrasing.

Many artists, when writing lyrics, choose words less for what they actually mean and more for how they sound and how they flow.

i could assume that, but i couldn't back it up. but the lyrics in this song seem to be lexically cohesive.

I think it's lyrics that are trying to sound really deep even though they're not.

Pavor is awesomely pretentious! And not nearly as pretentious as those bands who sing about relationships and pluck three notes for ten minutes and call it "indie." Then when you tell them their music is bad, they tell you that you just don't understand the "deep aesthetics of their sonic presence."

At least Pavor, as a band, aren't pretentious in the slightest (although they certainly have a right to be, their bassist is incredible).

i write some of my poems in strict iambic tetrameter. (every line starts with an unstressed syllable. every line has 8 syllables, no more no less. and the order of the syllables goes: unstressed, stressed, unstressed, stressed, etc.). do i call it pretentious? not really. is it a feat? sure, because it's hard for most people to do. but i tend to think rhythmically, so it comes more easily to me. it's fun. it's what i like to do. i do it because poems like this are easier to read, and i like poems that have a rhythmic bounce.

i know that it's fun sometimes to try to make something out of basically nothing. in this case, all of the subject/action words has to start with "V." i think one should be proud to have constructed a cohesive strand of thought out of a purposely restricted vocabulary......... On another note, i just listened to the song in question, and i think it sucks. listening to it was like watching a drunken bum regurgitate escargot.

I assume you took the time to analyze it, and came to the conclusion that it's gibberish? Or is it just because it uses big words? Come on, if that's pretentious, then Shakespeare was the Lord of Pretentiousness.

It's intellectual masturbation you're actually comparing this garbage to shakespear?
