STOP WITH THESE THREADS... And no, no harm was done, he will probably just serve some prison time in Guantanamo bay and make some new friends. ferrari2001
Some prison time = life with free waterboarding service! :D
Throwing an unclean shoe in their culture is a very strong insult. But, that's all it is, an insult, I think it's ridiculous that this nation we are supposed to be making free... is imprisoning this man, who insulted someone.Franklinsteinif someone here threw a shoe at the president, would they be let free because it's an insult, or be pummeled by then arrested by the secret service for assault?
Does anyone else find it troubling that the reporter was able to throw both of his shoes at the President before they wrestled him to the ground?THE_DRUGGIEmaybe the secret service was more cautious because they weren't in america? it does seem like they'd be on him quicker.

It's not like that, if there was a foreign president here and someone threw a tomatoe at him, they would probably be tackled, but they'd be eating dinner with their family that night also probably.

Yes, the underside of a shoe is considered to be the strongest insult possible over there.
I'm not surprised their going to imprison him though- cause he assaulted a government official (the president in this case). He's gonna get punished- despite the fact that it's just a blunt form of free speech he used there. That's the government for you.

Well, it would be understandable if he had the shoes off and ready to throw; but he screamed at the top of his lungs, took one shoe off, hurled it, took the other shoe off, and hurled it. Replace the shoes with bullets and you have a fatal mess-up by the Secret Service.
We were talking about this today in History, how in that culture the bottom of a shoe is a huge insult, like flipping someone the bird here in America. But I guess thats just it, an insult. While I guess he could serve some jail time for assault, I don't think he will, or if he does, if won't be long.
Another thing. While I was watching the video, Bush dodged each shoe perfectly, which I find a bit strange, seeing how they were thrown so randomly and quickly. Its almost like he knew they were coming.

I was thinking the same thing. It's kind of funny how he was able to duck and dodge them, before the secret service had time to even know what was going on... do I smell conspiracy?the Iraqi prime minister wants to imprison him for 8-10 years.
although someone feeling free to throw a shoe at the most powerful man in the world is a sign of serious progress.
