Gamespot laid a bunch of employees off in 2014. Tom, Caro, Justin Calvert, Ryan MacDonald and others. I haven't seen any of their names pop up on any other game site as an editor or freelance contributor. Anyone heard of they found new employment? Sucks to be a game writer nowadays. It's a dying profession.

I really really like Carolyn but she is on Patreon. Feels a lot like Zoe Quinn's victim bucks. My only problem with people raising money on donations is the entitlement factor.

To be honest they were some of GS's best writers, things have gone down the toilet in the news section since they've been gone

Yeah, Carolyn just reviewed a game for feminist frequency recently, i remember Tom said he would like to do freelancing, not sure though, havnt seen much. I dont think their Patreon and podcast stuff ever took off, so might be best to find companies too work for or just keep begging fans for money.

They were probably above writing advertisements as journalism; I'd like to think even video game journalists have standards.

Why do you say that? And do you really think things are better now?

They've gone from a legit game journalism site to "Hey look at this game/comic/movie/random-nerd-thing, here are some random factoids, oh and btw here is where you can buy it."

Sometimes I regret coming back to this site...

Yeah, Tom and Caro were the least of this website's problems. They were actually very eloquent writers. Their problem was just having an unpopular opinion most of the time, which there isn't anything technically wrong with that. The writers this site has currently are below their level and the frequency of typos and grammatical errors are embarrassing.

No idea, tho i did notice was that Petit has joined up with Sarkassian on the womens liberation front.

Which is kinda strange considering Petit´s history but what ever float their boats.

That's very interesting. Wouldn't that be like MSNBC hiring Bill O'Reilly to do commentary? Makes no sense to me. Feminists and transexuals are usually pretty diametrically opposed politically.

I know that Tom was working for IGN but I'm not sure if he is still there or if he left. He gets a lot of hate there as much as he did at Gamespot. I didn't care for any of his low reviews since they never bothered me but he did some bad articles that I wasn't a fan of.

@KHAndAnime: In Carolyn's review of GTA V she expressed how she despised the sarcastic humor against women's rights and etc which the radio stations in the game are filled with. I think it even was one of her arguments to why she didn't want to give the game a higher score than 8. I'm not sure if Carolyn didn't have a sense of humor at the time being or if she actually thinks that oppression against women and children is something you just shouldn't joke around about.

My point is though that she really fits into the image of feminist frequency. She recently made a review of the latest Tomb Raider game where a large chunk of the review circulates around feminism and it sounds like she's passionate about it.

@kriggy: I agree she fits in also, she has that progressive dictatorship vibe that matches. They want to force change at any cost, they could care less how it effects others freedoms. Just treat them like you treat all zoo animals, you can look, but try not to feed them, and dont unlock their cage, they lack the mental training needed to coop with the real world.

While there is some feminist groups who go with WBW and do not allow anyone not a born women into it, MTF´s tend to be in a group like newly religious, and think they have something to prove , so they usually become more radical and loud spoken.

So it´s not a surprise that Petit join up with FF and become one of the more radical and hardliners in feminism.

I've never really been aware of the different types of feminists. I've never met a feminist either so all I know is what I hear about them. What I hear is that feminists popularly believe that gender roles are something existing only as a construct of society, where transexuals believe that these roles are natural and their identities are defined by these roles. Being in the position she's in, she's obviously walking along many lines. Not to undersell her abilities but someone in her unique position probably have many reserved ('token') positions open for her, and based on what people describe to me this sounds like one of them.

Good for her. I wish her the best, I'm just glad she's not writing reviews for Gamespot anymore. Her focus always seemed to be on gender politics, which never has been the point to gaming. That sort of thing is fine for the occasional commentary but it need not be incessant.

Can't say I miss them. Tom and Caro were obnoxious IMO, but I guess that makes sense, since I can't stand FemFreq and similar either.

The "third wave" of feminism seems to have hijacked adopted pretty much every "noble" cause under the sun, so the idea of gender as a social construct (choice) magically does'nt conflict with the idea of being born in the wrong body ;)

Don't be a white male though, can't have those types walking freely around.

Yeah, this. Fortunately I don't think I ever really stumbled upon their reviews, actually. From what I heard about them though, ugh. Sometimes well, different opinions, to say the least, I can hold out and tolerate to a degree, and at least try to tolerate them, but their reviews upon reading them sounds like they were cringe-worthy, and I wouldn't have tolerated them very well at all.

Sounds like nobody (besides Feminist Frequency) wants to hire Carolyn because of her constant need to bring up misogyny in games. And thats probably for the best. And Tom would post contrarian articles and reviews simply to stir the pot. I feel really bad for Justin calvert and Ryan MacDonald. Ryan was at Gamespot almost from the very beginning (1996) and Justin for 12 years. Hope they found employment.

McShea brought some excitement to this site with his controversial opinions... Now this site has become boring.
