It seems like most shows are leaving the old 20-22 episode season to the 10 epsidoes a season trend. Most new shows have this ie breaking bad, game of thrones, the walking dead etc. What do you think of this trend?

that is because most new shows fill a one hour time slot rather than the traditional half-hour.

Hour long TV shows have been normal since the 80s and they always managed to have a 22-24 episode season.Certain cable shows such as the ones you mentioned are usually shorter than what you normally see on network television due to costs; shows like Game of Thrones and Boarkwalk Empire are definitely not cheap to produce. The first episode of Boardwalk alone reportedly cost $18 million.
that and studios are saving money and are using ideas that would be a movie and turning it into a 1 season show...saving moneyz

Whale Wars was short this year but they got the job done. Good news is there are much more cable shows and network shows playing new shows in the summer. America's Got Talent comes to mind.

Your post completely blew over me becasue I was interested in your sig. I suppose it's not wierd to be eagerly awaiting that show?
These shows are very expensive to produce. Especially if it's a show that has a lot of location shoots. That's why many of the shows being produced now have shorter seasons than those back in the day. Back in the day no one would have sunk that kind of money into a TV show.

im a big fan of it. And i think the best thing to do is end it. Dont want to over do it
tho this season is short since the show ends withs with a full movie. So it's all good.
Premium level cable shows (as opposed to stuff on the "SyFy Channel", for instance) have always done this; network show orders remain about where they were. Show seasons used to be 26 episodes a year up until the early 80's, when that began to fall to 22, but shows like Six Feet Under, Damages, The Shield, etc have always had 10 or 13 episode seasons. As long as the episodes are good and have less filler, I'm A-OK with it, personally. It seems like most shows are leaving the old 20-22 episode season to the 10 epsidoes a season trend.
