Lots of bloodshed still happening around the world. Take latest example of the young student gunning down innocents in movie theatre. Are we humans savage by nature or civilised , with exception of few savages?

Humans aren't savages, cruel, selfish, nor humble, and benevolent. To categorize man in such terms, as natural characteristics, is juvenile, and missing the point.
I don't know how many people there are in the USA, but last I heard it was over 300 million people. Now, out of those 300 million people, how many of them would you wager have EVER killed another human being?Lots of bloodshed still happening around the world. Given the chance most humans do the right thing.
Hopefully some day we will unlock the secrets of exactly how the brain works and put a stop to the crazies.
Humans are too insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Hopefully one day humans will become extinct and another species, probably morally superior to humans, will replace us.
Depends, if you think humanity is but a product of random genetic mutations which select traits that help us survive then yes we are fundametnally savage as our entire existence will bring us to survive above all other things. Of course thats not a bad or good thing in this world view.

It's in our genes. How many animal species in the world would kill each other at the same levels humans do like in wars? In the insect world, I know certain species of bees and ants do.
That's BS.

You think creatures bred solely to survive and propitiate aren't savage? Grow up.

As opposed to what? Being created to glorify God? Are you implying that that worldview has led to less savagery? Last I checked, religion has caused immense savagery around the world. Are you saying we are not savage? Then again Im not condemning or praising from this world view. Only asking why you would avoid the cruel reality. But as for religion causing savagery I don't want to talk on that today so for the sake of it, yes religious people have committed great evils.

No, I think we are very much savages. What you said just kind of gave me the impression that you believe that any worldview lacking religion leads to more savagery than one that incorporates it. If I'm incorrect in that assumption, I misinterpreted and apologize. I think that no matter our worldview, we are equally as savage, or at least hold equal capability of it. It just would be for different reasons....i.e, naturalism (not sure if that's the correct term) versus belief.[QUOTE="junglist101"]

Grow up?! Please. That was just a pot shot at Darwin and evolution and a very ignorant comment at best.
It's pretty safe to say that most people do not take a Darwinistic approach to life and you know it so stop.
Am I the only one who suddenly heard this upon reading the title >.> But eh, I guess we are. Humans are violent by nature.Skittles_McGee
