I am.

Everytime I go in the ocean I'm stricken with extreme paranoia about whats touching my feet or around me, or what could be lurking nearby.

I've been scared of jellyfish, sharks, stepping on crustacians, and all those crazy lookin fish with the razor sharp teeth.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could swim as proficiently as I could walk/run.

But in water, my chances of survival have dropped SIGNIFICANTLY.

Am I the only one here who feels this way?

I would feel the same way if I were the amazon rain forest, or a similar type of jungle.
However, I don't feel that way in the ocean.

not really. i suppose there's no way of not being afraid of deadly ocean creatures, but for the most part, common ocean creatures are generally harmless. spending time in the ocean makes it a lot easier over a long time.

I am both fascinated and scared of deep sea creatures. I would love to go in one of those submarines and witness these creatures with my own eyes, but at the same time I'd be scared out of my wits with some of the stuff I might see.

I like looking at them, not so much being in contact with them.

Giant bristle worms scare me. You'd be swimming casually underwater, poking around a reef, and then all of a sudden one of them crawls out and bites your foot off.

I'm scared of the ocean due to the fact that it's been the sewer of humanity for the past 10,000 years.

Holy.... damn

I'm Kinda afraid of some stuff.. but, knowing the odds of the scary stuff pretty much makes it not scary.. However I'm afraid of the open ocean.. like I'd never swim in the middle of the Atlantic unless I really had to. :D

It looks quite pretty in that image. Here in Australia I've seen a whole beach littered with blue bottles. Not deadly to my knowledge, but they still pack a sting.

I HATE deep open water unless it is clear and I can see my feet and that, so swimming in a nice clear sea where you can see the seabed is nice. If it's just a lake or the ocean, I'll be scared as anything, feel so vulnerable and the thought of sharks around or some weird creature.

I feel the same way about water. I don't like swimming unless I'm in a pool. I remember as a child being really afraid to swim in the lake of the ozarks because you couldn't see anything in the water.

Hell yes. Jellyfish, sharks, stingrays. They creep the living crap out of me.

That's why, on the very rare occasion I go to the beach, I never leave the shore. I just sit in the break.

I am terrified of open water, but not because there is any real danger, but because being in that element just completely freaks me out. Where I live there are no sharks or water snakes or mean jelly fish or anything like that, yet I'm still scared to go in. The ocean on the east coast is okay, I used to go swimming there when I was a kid, but I could never do it alone. Lakes are just a big fat NONO, what with their murky water and icky sea beds. I tried a lake-dip last summer but I only managed to panic and bang both of my knees really badly while scampering for safety onto the little pier.

I will go out in the ocean a little ways but if I go to far I'm afraid that either a) I'm going to step on something sharp or some sort of evil fish that'll bite me or b) I'll get pulled out towards the big breakers and drown. So I usually stay within 100 or so feet of the shore.

I definitely am. I'll still go in the water, but there will always be the fear that there might be a shark or a jellyfish nearby. Strangely, I don't have this fear nearly as much as I do when I'm in a lake.

if the water has low visability I tend to be a little freaked out. I still swim in the ocean and stuff, but my imagination tends to run a little wild.
