My school is giving out free shots, but I feel it is unnecessary. I think this whole thing is blown out of proportion. What are your thoughts?

edit:

If you've had the H1N1 then pick Yes since you're immune.

I got it a while ago due to our new baby. That is one more flu I'm resistant to. Fine by me.

Nope. Don't see the reason for it since I'm able to get the real news about H1N1 from the staff at the hospital my dad works at.

I'm not because no one has any idea what the long term side effects might be.

The same as the regular flu vaccine... resistance to the flus your vaccinated against and after 10 years of them a greater resistance to the flu in general.

Not exactly true because if it was, the H1N1 and Flu vaccination would be exactly the same thing. I didn't realize it either until I met a university research professor who is doing nothing but H1N1 research right now. It is similar but still a new vaccine that hasn't had long term testing completed.

Didn't have a choice in the matter, since I'm a nurse. I would have most likely decided to receive the vaccine anyways, but I see why there are people who are hesitant and stressed about the long-term effects.

My father works as an accountant type job at a hospital, so my parents dragged to get a vaccine because it was free. Turns out because I DID get the vaccine, I couldn't give blood that following week (which if I had, it would've meant I would've got a free pint of ice cream, Pint of a Pint as an Ice Cream Shop does around here), so I was very upset.

It is the same thing, just with a different inert virus ;) In fact had they caught it a few months earlier they would have just included it in the seasonal vaccine.

nope not getting one, never get regular flu shot either, barley even get the flu maybe twice or3 times in 20 years.

the flu "vaccine" isnt really a vaccine its a preventiatve measure that exposes you to the virus to help lessesn the length and severity of the flu if you happen to get it. hence why they give them out every year instead of once in a lifetime like other vaccines.

Even though it is free from the government I'm not getting it. From what I gather more people die from the normal flu than H1N1, plus I don't know anyone who has actually taken up the vaccine

No, I don't intend on getting a H1N1 flu shot. Why? Because I'm not afraid of the big bad flu.:P I think it's exaggerated, and I never worry about it. It must suck to be a hypochondriac.

Congratulations.

I was supposed to get it for the same reason but I ended up picking it up from someone in the office anyway. It wasn't anything to write home about, but I could see how it could be lethal to the young and old.

No, don't intend to. This video made me think about my decision. I don't take this as gospel, but she raises some things to think about.

Well the stories I have heard were about how the vaccine can affect the nervous system.

I even saw a video of a woman that couldnt walk normally after getting the shot. Not sure about details though.

Well of course I am not saying that everyone or even the majority ends up somehow affected by the shot.

Its just many things combined....

  • Rumours of side-effects
  • A disease that is exaggerated
  • I hate shots

etc

:P

No, and i probably wont unless it becomes a big issue in my area. If there's very little chance I'll get it, I'm not gonna put excess chemicals into my body.

Nah I just exercise a little prevention. I use hand sanitizers and online resources to track the cold and flu. My job has had a marketing campaign with triaminic for about a year so I just use their online Cold and Flu tracker to get an idea of trends in my area. H1N1 is pretty strong where I live(NYC) but I think the most successful aid against the flu in general is prevention.

Do, wont either, been offered a few free shots too, but I don't think it is unnecessary. I'm strong by myself, without the need for help. I've actually played beer pong with a few guys who had the swine flu back in october, and everyone at the party got sick, but I didn't. I felt fine, and still do, so, no need for vaccine.

I had to get mine months ago since my mom runs a daycare at the house.
