I'm glad its over. Bad writing, horrible story, cardbord characters, predictable plot.
Absolute waste of paper.
It passed me by really, I dont find the books or films interesting at all.masters89

I agree. You must LOVE, and I mean worship Harry Potter, to like the books.
Now those kids who sit by themselves at lunch might get some friends now that they stopped reading the book!

Pretty much.
There should be a PETA for trees that goes after Rowling.

Obviously you've never read a page in your life...
Obviously you've never read a shakespeare play, or anything by william faulkner.
and yes, I have read the books... the first 3.
I don't like to knock things until I try them.

You can't say it's a waste of paper, the Harry Potter series actually made millions of kids read a novel for the first time in their lifes, I read the first HP years ago, when I was about 12... and just by trying to read something similar I have already finished TLOTR, Eragon, Narnia, etc. I'm 19 now.
Nobody is saying the book is perfect, afterall its a novel aimed for kids, but all of you who just dismiss it because "you have read real novels" or "HP is teh kiddie! Reading is for nerds 8D" or "Overrated" probably haven't read the the whole thing, or think you are too 'Mature' .. I'm just saying you guys are missing a hell of a novel.
I hate how people justify something as good by pointing at sales. You can't say it's a waste of paper, the Harry Potter series actually made millions of kids read a novel for the first time in their lifes, I read the first HP years ago, when I was about 12... and just by trying to read something similar I have already finished TLOTR, Eragon, Narnia, etc. I'm 19 now.

and of course the book isn't perfect, but one would think that a writer got better with practice. It seemed to me that rowling got worse and worse. the second was the best, but that's not saying much.
I just get angry when people think its the best thing in the world, and haven't ever read anything even remotely good.

And it is obviously wrong of you to say that. The issue is not the fact that you don't like Potter, which is fine, but to basically imply that anyone who does is incapable of reading so called "higher" books is ridiculous.
I'm not implying people that like harry potter are stupid. I just know that there are better works out there. As much as I hate the word, this series is completely overrated. And it is obviously wrong of you to say that. yes I am, oh and in case you didn't know
I don't like Harry Potter, but I made you click the spoiler
I will be exceptionally happy when gamespot starts modding people for bringing up Harry potter...The series is over...get over it...
I didn't know having a thin, predictable plot, generic, predictable characters, and making the same book over and over makes it one hell of a novel.
When I pick up a Harry Potter book, without reading it, I can tell how the book is going to go. I want to be surprised by my book, I want a strong plot, I want characters I can feel for, I want a book I can immerse myself in. I don't want to know what is going to happen just because her writing is predictable.

So you only read 3 books and think the whole thing is bad? You should give the rest of the novels a try, just so you can argue better.
If people think it's the best thing in the world that shouldn't be your problem, "good" differs form person to person anyways, you say you like Shakespeare .. I say I find most of his novels/plays tediously boring.

How is her writing predictable? I love the HP series for one thing: It's well thought-out. For example, JK may say something in the beginning of the story which proves to be very important in the climax of the book, or even in the plot of another book. This magical world she has created is truly amazing, what with the different spells, potions, apparitions, Quidditch and whatnot.

Boy goes the school.
Boy gets into something that only he can fix.
Boy defeats evil.
Rinse, Repeat.
And in case you're wondering, I've read up to the Order of the Pheonix. Quite honestly, I don't remember much about the books since they were in no way memorable. Plus the characters annoy me. They're paper thin. She has no idea about character developement.

I'm assuming that you read novels for action and adventure. Yes, I like reading novels with those too. but what I like even better is a good plot and depth to a story. I hate reading something for face value like the harry potter series. I read for a mental exercise, not just to read.

Wrong. He doesn't always defeat evil, at least he didn't in the sixth book. Nor in the fifth book to be honest. That also didn't happen in the fourth book either. Well, he has to go to school doesn't he? And almost always Harry gets some help. And there is character development. As everyone grows up, other feelings begin to kick in, like love, and in the later books Harry is more, erm, rebellious if you like.
Actually, he does always win the battle at the end of the books.
Character developement.. Hah, all she does is inject him with hormones. The characters are pretty static through the whole series.

What exactly did you expect with character development? And he may 'win' the battle at the end of each book, but he doesn't win the war against evil. I would describe it more as escaping from the battle unharmed rather than winning the battle.
The actual writing isn't all that great but what really draws me is that this magical world that JK has created is pretty imaginative. I started reading the book way before the idea of a movie was even thought of, I think it was in grade 4 or 5 my teacher had just "found" a nice little book and she thought that it would be fun to read in class. I got hooked and apparantly, so did the rest of the world.forgot_it
The exact same thing happened to me. We had the first book for class reading, and I got really hooked.
I am from a literary critics point of view, yes. I read the first three and they where about as base and simple as a can of tuna. I'd prefer my reading to have more flavor, to be more complex.
But it is a enjoyable franchise for many, and it captivates the young minds in a positive direction, so it is very good.
though, I do hope J.K Rowling retires her pen as well :P .
If anything I hated how much deux ex machina harry potter had. He was a little teenage boy who somehow magically (pun intended) defeated the greatest sorcerer to ever live? a person who sacrificed his very humanity in order to become immortal and all pwerful? Meanwhile harry is getting hit on by asian chicks and decides to defeat the greatest evil known to man in his spare time with some redheaded kid he met on a train.TongHua
His mother actually put a charm apon Harry, who didn't defeat Voldemort,Lily only seperated part of his soul with her Charm. I think that Cho the Asian chick' is a great way of empathising with teenagers going through relationships, not including you I guess. And in the final book Harry devotes all his time into defeating evil, not his 'spare time'. And Ron and him are best friends and their relationship has been followed for 7 books by many children and adults alike. I read the 1st book when I was eight, I am now 16 and just finished The Deathly Hallows and it's one of the best books I've read, after Of Mice and Men and the LOTR trillogy.
yeah i saw like 50 of them at walmart today what a waste of space and whatever books are made ofI'm glad its over. Bad writing, horrible story, cardbord characters, predictable plot.

You lose the internets. I don't even read the Harry Potter series but to say the book has a horrible story, bad writing, cardboard characters and predictable plot is just ridiculous.
