I'm always really nervous giving a speech... but I'm naturally pretty good at it. It just feels natural to pan the room as I talk, use proper hand motions, and just talk naturally, even though I'm really nervous.
What say you?

I used to be, I was even on the Speech and Debate Team in HS when I was 15 or so. However, when I had to give a speech during college last semester I was SO nervous and ended up procrastinating it for weeks. I think it showed too, because I tend to giggle when I get nervous :?
Eh, it got better towards the end though. You ease into it.
Yes. I won the Speaker's Award at school a few times for whatever that's worth. I never get nervous.
I'm just lucky I guess, don't even think about, through work I speak at meetings, presentations, school visits etc. without a qualm.
Edit: I agree you have to know what you're on about though.
Yeah, it gets easier to do the more you do it.I used to be, I was even on the Speech and Debate Team in HS when I was 15 or so. [QUOTE="Pirate700"]That's how I am... I really study the subject so that I can just naturally talk about it. Also if I'm sitting I'm much better. If I have to stand in front of everyone, I'm not nearly as good. Sitting I'm fine.If I really know the subject, I can be once I get going.

[QUOTE="Suzy_Q_Kazoo"]Yeah, it gets easier to do the more you do it. It helps even more when your not going first to give a speech too...:P After seeing someone else give a speech first, I usually get a general idea what to say which makes giving speeches more comfortable...I used to be, I was even on the Speech and Debate Team in HS when I was 15 or so. I was usually better than most of my peers when talking loudly and presenting my ideas clearly, but I still got somewhat nervous and my knees get shaky sometimes. But it's weird after performing my piano solo I don't feel this way anymore when I do my presentations in class. Hopefully I'll get a lot better for my two speech competitions next year.
Use to be bad in middle school but I was in JROTC in high school and I was the commander of the unit soo I had to give my weekly speech to the whole unit (120+). After that, I'm perfectly fine with speeches for any amount of people.
Just need to know the subject...
Yes. I took a speech class my freshman year in college. My classmates always told me my speeches were one of the better ones in the class.
I'm pretty good at them. Sure it usually starts shaky, but it gets better the more accustomedI am to the audience and the topic. It definitely helps if you know what the topic is beforehand, but I've never had a problem with improv speeches, either.
Im not great at speeches. If i really know my topic and prepare im not all that bad but usually thats not the case and i procrastinate and dont know what im talking about. If im not reading of something i babble on mindlessly. It helps alot if im with more then one person. Then im not as nervous and can rely on them if i mess up :p
I always get really nervous during the anticipation of the speech. I'll literally shake and have sweaty palms. But once I am up there, I feel fine and do a pretty good job. I've been told by numerous people that when I am speaking, I sound like I could be a politician. Good strong voice that carries.
[QUOTE="Zaibach"]But everything I know I learned from Scholar VisariMissLibrarianThe man can talk. I've watched the intro to KZ so many times. Epic speech.
And the fact that many people really are good orators.I can promise you whithin a few days the poll will dictate around 45-50% will say yes they are good at giving speeches. Why? Becease humans love to think they are sepcial, especially the 14-34 age group

Ive never been bad at it, but it always felt forced and awkward when i was reading a script. I hated sounding like i was reciting something, as it tended to be boring and drag on.
I found that knowing the topic inside out, and then improvising the speech did a lot. Not only did it flow more, but it was far more interesting, and felt a lot more natural.
I still occasionally write speeches, but if i can i will just jot some notes on a piece of paper, and then just look at those words as a queue for what I need to talk about next.
