For those that don't know what it means:

"The theory or attitude that physical well-being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life."I'm pretty guilty of being materialistic, and its sad. I mean, I find pleasure and happiness in materials rather than spiritual junk. Wish I could somehow change it...Well, question goes out to you OT. Are you materialistic?

I think being at peace and happy is "the greatest good and highest value in life", so I guess not. I do value physical well-being quite highly, though.

I'd say that money doesn't buy happiness, but that poverty and privation make it much harder to attain.

Very much so, although I also hold other non-materialistic things just as highly, so...I'm not quite sure.

It doesn't necessarily. What it does buy is comfort and a certain degree of security, but it's up to each individual how much they value those things. Admittedly, I value those things quite highly. :P

I don't think so. Besides a couple of films, there nothing that I own that I don't really need. I used to buy all kinds of things, but I've started getting rid of stuff little by little over the years to the point where I can pack up everything in my room that isn't my bed or my two desks into two boxes.

To a degree yes. My physical well-being is of the utmost importance. How can a person possibly enjoy life if they are sick, injured, disfigured, or in destitute poverty.

We go to school all our childhood and work as adults in order to get money. Money has no spiritual or intrinsic value other then to increase our social status and buy stuff. Theres nothing that makes me happier then when Im healthy and I have money in my account. So yea Im materialistic and proud of it.

I'm in between. It's not that I want the best most expensive things, but I'm very picky and particular in the things I want. So are pricey and others are very cheap.

To a degree. I like buying things because they are objects that make me happy. I think we all feel good when we have some new clothing to put on as well. Though I wouldn't call this to be the stereotype of being materialistic in a neghative way.

In the sense that I buy things that I'll get a lot of use and enjoyment from, sure. I don't go around buying excess just for the sake of having it though.

I like having 'stuff', but I make sure the price is worth the value they bring to me. If I can find a non-name brand item for less but still offers the same utility, I'd go for that. I also make sure I only buy things I know I'll use. The exception being figurines =P

Money doesn't buy happiness. It can buy mental security, physical well being, and allow you to experience new things but it surely does not buy happiness. When it comes down to it people who you love and spend time with bring happiness. Bettering yourself and becoming more then what you are in a knowledge and spirtual sense brings happiness. Take it from a guy who is considerbly wealthy (me) money does not bring happiness, infact it can bring problems. If you ever get rich, you'll learn that (hopefully).

I don't feel that the quality of the stuff I have dictates my self worth... but I do like having the best stuff. :P I'm not really materialistic by that definition, but I'd still call myself materialistic.

human companionship can bring happiness as well, but id certainly like to hear how being rich has brought you so many problems and why you havent just gotten rid of it if its such a bother.

Where did I say that it brought me "so many problems"? I only stated that it will not buy you happiness. Having problems is not the equivalent of unhappiness. Companionship can bring happiness but a true companion is not with you because you have money. One issue with being wealthy is that you are never entirely sure if someone is your friend simply because they enjoy your company or because they know you're wealthy.

Perhaps... You'll never know until you're in such a position. As the old saying goes, "the grass is always greener on the other side". While I may be wealthy, that is not how I define myself and my values. I value true companions. How does that other saying go? "A friend will bail you out of jail. A true friend would be in jail with you." ?

well paranoia certainly wouldnt be the fault of wealth. it would be a person by person thing (damn human companionship!). im by no means from a poor family, but i dont have go around suspecting everybody is conspiring to mooch off me. sometimes people are their own worst enemies.

I'm a little bit materialistic. I like buying CD's for having my music in physical form. I like buying games as opposed to downloading them because of the game case, disk, and instruction booklet. I like cool looking phones.

Hardly. I haven't bought any non-consumables within the last three or four months. Even when I do shop, it's usually on a need basis; y'know when the socks have holes all the way through and the boxers are so skidmarked that... Uhh... So how about that weather?
