Superman is the only superhero who puts a mask (disguise) on and dumbs hmself down to blend in with society. When he takes his mask off, he's always Superman. Then you have the average folk who put their Spidey 'mask' on to face the world in a never-ending battle to step up to the plate and put the best foot forward. So what mask do you wear? Inevitably, in certain situations we all have to act accordingly.

Similar to how Superman puts on his Clark Kent disguise to reflect how he views humanity to fit it. If he walked around as his normal self, Superman, his co-workers at the Daily Planet would never accept him as Superman, a newspaper reporter. So yes, people who are 'out there' or have 'extraoridanry personalities' have to somewhat 'dumb themselves down' to blend in certain situations. Usually certain celebrities like Chef Ramsey, Donald Trump, before they got famous and were doing everything things like working etc, will have friends talk about them saying, 'he / she was always different or ambitious' when they were working here before they got famous.
