I am kind of on the fence.

I realize people live in bad countries and they want to make a better life for themselves but I also think people have to fix their own countries problems. It's no point everyone moving to a more economically viable country since that just puts more strain on the resources of the country they are moving too and taking jobs of citizens who were born there.

If it's the US you are talking about, I am all for immegration. The more foreign accents I hear around me, the less surrounded by redneck hicks I feel, thus more comfortable with life.

Why do the citizens who were born there have more right to jobs? It should go to the most skilled, regardless of where they happened to be born.

I'm for legal immigration and obviously againest illegal immigrants. However I still think the more important issue is a global incentive (UN) in helping to sort out these countries they are leaving, therefore they won't feel the need to leave. Sadly todays policies seem to be so focused on tackling the concequence more than the cause.

I'm American, I believe the core values in our Bill of Rights is something that all man should have. So why would I deny another man's right to pursue happiness? Because he's not American? To deny his right, contradicts everything my constitution stands for.

You could argue that, immigrants bring crime and violence. I believe the real problem is proverty and corruption. They took your job? Don't blame them, blame the flaws of capitalism that seek to max profits of slave labor.

So are you saying that by not letting someone come here you are denying them that? Since when was that exclusive to us? Since when did it come to the thought that only we have those values? Does Canada not have them? To want to give that to all men means to force change in their homeland so they don't have to come here to get it. We can't harbor the worlds population.

You could argue that, immigrants bring crime and violence. I believe the real problem is proverty and corruption. They took your job? Don't blame them, blame the flaws of capitalism that seek to max profits of slave labor.Blue-Sky

Poverty eh? You do know that they come from a poor nation and them coming here won't solve poverty there right? Ignore that and there will always be more and that only causes our poverty rate to increase, that solves nothing. Why shouldn't we blame them? They take the jobs without demanding fair wages and treatment, they came here illegally putting themselves in this situation. Its the companies fault and the illegal immigrants fault, each should get blame where it is deserved.

taking jobs of citizens who were born there.Deano
I've never got this argument. You can't "take" a job so much as "take" a certificate or degree. The companies involve give them to who they think would be best for the job. And are citizens who are born in said country at any more liberty to acquire a job than those who aren't? If you're best for the job you'll get it. As far as I can see, also, they're being given the jobs no-one else will do or wants. I'm kind of on the fence too. There's just so many factors to take into account. As Singularity22 said, pro-legal and against illegal immigration.

I read an article a long time ago (no I dont have a link) but it said that a large percentage of America's leading minds are immigrants, or children of immigrants. When people think of immigration, they think of border crossings between Mexico and the US. How about all the legal immigrants from Mexico and other nations. Albert Einstein was an immigrant, and Oppenheimer was the son of an immigrant. Some of America's leading minds are immigrants or descendants of. To close of immigration would be kill a large portion of America's intellectual prowess.

Seriously. Your ancestors invaded a land that wasn't theirs and nearly decimated an entire culture. Also the spread of European diseases amongst the native population decimated their population severely. To top it off, you then proceeded to steal all their land and wealth and then began to treat them as sub-humans in their own land. Illegal immigrants from other nations have nothing on your ancestors. Even up to this day The original residents of the land are mistreated.

And how can it be legal for the same reason? It's a moot point. The country was in, what is known in anomie terms, a state of "normlessness". There were no laws to violate, but that doesn't make what was done right.

Its not moot, saying it is illegal means they violated a law or laws which they did not. Not legal or illegal. You claimed it wasn't legal, which is not true.

I made no claim. I asked how. But if you were to look at it in terms of standard immigration regulations, then yes - the people who first migrated to America were illegal aliens. A more pessimistic and argumentative view would be to call it an invasion.

ya I know, just stating really that every culture has been invaded by another cuture in history, many multiple times.so I don't see it as right or wrong, just human history.

There might have been people living in america, but really were the any laws? Just the law of the bow and arrow

The indian tribes were killing each other long before any settlers came.

That's right, I don't agree with it at all. The first immigrants of America were illegal by modern standard immigration laws. As I said, back then it was a state of normlessness. As your country's handling of the natives (torture, unjust imprisonment, discrimination and murder) wasn't illegal either, should we say that that was legal too? But are you talking about laws then or now? As we have already acknowledged, there were no laws on illegal aliens back then, specifically no laws in America. The Native Americans didn't have laws as much as a moral code (same difference, really) which they all lived by and didn't regard the land theirs to own. If you want laws from back then you won't find them.

You are missing the point, you are using current laws to define what they did as illegal and I am telling you what they did at the time was neither illegal or legal. There were no laws then, so what they did then was not illegal because it violated no existing law. I am just trying to point it what they did was not illegal..not that it was right just not illegal at them time.
