Social liberal (for US standards) and economic conservative (for US standards). Also, in the US that would make me the perfect "liberal".

That would make you a Libertarian...far from a Liberal...
Isn't libertarian also about FREE market? Economic conservative in the rest of the world is socialist. Liberal means free after all, thus little or no regulations. Only in america these get mixed up. Actually, the liberal movement worldwide was mainly about capitalism.Anyways, that was what I meant, which is actually left-libertarian. The libertarian party in the US is right-libertarian.

Depends how economically conservative you are. I'm a libertarian as well, but I would consider myself liberal.
I'm mostly apolitical since I do not believe in government coercion and control of lives. But if I had to choose a poltiical ideology I would choose libertarian socialist like Noam Chomsky.

It's funny how things got switched around since the 1900's. There are two types of Liberalism, the Classic Liberalism which is the cutting back on Government or the one you are referring to. Than there is the new Liberalism, which is literally called "Socialist Liberalism" also known as the preferred Modern Liberalism.
The main idea of Liberal here in the US is a Socialist Liberal, in that respect Conservatives are far more for smaller Government than Liberals are now a day's, hence why many Libertarians prefer the Conservative party over the Liberal party due to the fact that there aren't that many Libertarians per say running for office, and the ones that do don't usually get in.
So I am not arguing against you, just saying that technically you both were right depending on what time period you are referring to. It's easy to say in the US now a days that a Libertarians values are very far off from a Liberals.
