and if so, are you going to try and break the chain of racism in your family?

Ex: asking your father not to make any racest remarks around your child (like i'm probably going to have to >.>)

Sometimes they make comments I think are inapproppiate about race but I wouldn't say that they are racist.

one time when we were driving through a city my mother said "lets lock the doors this place doesn't look very safe" and my dad just said "no its fine, i havn't seen any black people yet".hoola

I disagree. There's a difference between making a stereotypical remark or generalization, and hating a person solely on their race.

My family has racist tendencies but I've been working on changing that... and it seems to be slowly working. It's actually the thing me and my mom have argued about more than anything. After I gave her a biblical reason for why she was wrong she hasn't argued against me... and it's been several years now.

I am not racist and I no more make fun of other ethnic groups than my own. I make fun of people in a way that they might become better people.. not to bring them down.

My parents make sterotypical comments but they arn't racist.

But I, like Steven Colbert, don't see race.

I'm pretty sure everyone as a baby is racist. Everyone thinks they are so cute, but they are harbouring malice rasist thoughts about the other babies in the hospital.

Gotta disagree with you here, the place were you see the most colorblindness is at a daycare with 2-3 year olds, before their heads are filled with whatever vile crap some of their parents spit out.

I can't stand racism I think it is stupid. I like or dislike people based on intelligence.

No, thankfully my parents, my dad especially taught me the only difference in people is luck of the draw on who their mom or dad is. I teach my children that as well. I'm older here than most, 33, and the amount of racism I see in these forums is disgusting. I thought that it would mostly be gone in 20-30 years, I may have been wrong, the younger generation seems just as bad, judging from reading the OT for 5 years as the last.btaylor2404

My parents aren't racist. I've had a lot of friends from different cultures and ethnicities. But they do talk about black and white all the time, so do my grandparents. I'm mixed, my great grandfather was white, and my other great grandfather on my moms side was part Native American.

I am sorry, just know most people don't feel the same way, just ones that hide on their PC.

I know we've talked about it, I think thru your blog, and I don't see it in with my son's peers, he's 13. And we're white and from Little Rock Arkansas. But reading all of these topics that pop up every few days is depressing, hopefully when Obama is elected it will help signal a change. A key issue, I think, is the night of his acceptance speech I made my son watch with me. I told him the difference at school tomorrow will be that he can still become president if he strives for it and always has had that option, but his black friends, and 20% or so of the school now can say the same, and that is a very, very big deal IMO.

Yeah although he is only half black, but that gives me a chance to be the first full black president.

I was actually thinking about this while smoking and drinking the other night. You don't hate on a dog for being brown, or black, or blonde....or even spotted. Imagine a spotted person that looked like a Dalmation....You would think that person was ugly and scarry s **** so you would be racist towards them. People may look different, but when you get to know them, they are just like anybody else.
