I was a special ed kid all the way from K to 12. The teachers knew I was f*cked up right from the start!

School would have been less painful had it been majority special ed kids. :P My high school is only 9% sp-ed kids (according to school demographics), so I was definitely in the minority.

Edited twice because the poll is being stupid.

I was in advance classes come middle school, and part of freshmen year of high school, but then I realize there was no point in me challenging myself when I can get an A in algebra but then have to sacrifice my video game weekends to get a C or B in Calculus.

I don't think that answered the question.

Algebra 2? F*ck, I had to take basic Algebra and that was it for math mostly. I was getting a D in geometry concepts! I suck so hard at math and always will.

I chose to place myself in remedial/basic classes after I realize there was no point in regards to obtaining a high school diploma.

That was as far as I got in mathematics. "Intermediate algebra 2" Is what they called it. Not real algebra two.

I took Algebra 1, Geometry 1, and "Intermediate algebra 2". That was it. I have no math requirements in college, so I havent taken a math course in like 4 years.

Depends on your major. If you end up having to take statistics, you'll at least be in the same boat as everyone else, as it is basically all new info to everyone taking it and all previous math really doesn't help you learn it at all.

However, stats tutors are very hard to find.

GummiRaccoon

not sure if I should be happy

that wording is so ambiguous

ps tc why are you afraid of math?

pretty much all classes for undergraduates (or for me anyway so far) have just been cookbook. That includes everything up to differential equations.

I am taking that next semester, but I doubt it's going to change.

I am sure if you dedicated yourself to it, you can be getting A's in any math class you take.

You have to take heavy math because you have a hard science major.

Social sciences get easy peasy math.

I wasn't a special ed student but my brother was...it was tough on him. He's kind of slow when it comes to learning and getting stuff. You had to be patient with him, but he was in class with guys that had down syndrome and others who were truly..without sounding harsh, NOT THERE AT ALL! It wasn't right, and he didn't get much out of it. He's good now, but not because of school, but because he's a kick ass mechanic. He's not slow with that.

About math, I don't think any of them test your intelligence, so far anyway. All they are based off is how much you practice.

They're easier to teach than some normal people. This first grade boy I worked with who had autism, our goal for him by the end of the year was for him to string together 3-5 word sentences. And that to me is less frustrating than some of this hurr durr bullsh!t I get interacting with users now that I work in IT.

I'd imagine that would be like gs pc hardware except 100x worse.

You list the correct solution, but the op ignores your post completely.

Thankfully irl I never let people know I know about computers unless they are close friends, and even then I downplay it.

Psych majors have to take Statistics at least. Here in Cali, you need a couple years of advanced math courses to even transfer to a University.

Not really, no. The extent to which I needed "special attention" was that in Elementary School I had a speech therapist I'd meet with weekly since I had trouble pronouncing my R's. Outside of that I got nothing.

No, but my parents told me of a time when I was in first grade and taken out of class because someone at the school wanted to test me for autism (or something?). I'm guessing it was because I was quiet when I was younger and didn't socialize much with the rest of the class except for a couple kids. Turns out I wasn't autistic or anything like that and I ended up with an average school life

Not really, no. The extent to which I needed "special attention" was that in Elementary School I had a speech therapist I'd meet with weekly since I had trouble pronouncing my R's. Outside of that I got nothing.

We call those kindergarten R's btw.

Psych majors have to take Statistics at least. Here in Cali, you need a couple years of advanced math courses to even transfer to a University.

reminds me of this

For some reason, I just can't help but interpret the question as, "Are you or have you ever been retarded?"

No.

It's not a bad word, I swear.

From my experience, the people who go after low hanging fruit do so because they can't jump that high.

I can't really jump that high. :(

I went to a speech class cause I didn't say my words right and had to wear a seat belt on the bus cause I jumped all over the place. That's about it really.

[QUOTE="gamerguru100"] I haven't taken math in community college, but I wonder if I'll have to once I transfer. F*ck. I'll be screwed if I have to. gamerguru100

Depends on your major. If you end up having to take statistics, you'll at least be in the same boat as everyone else, as it is basically all new info to everyone taking it and all previous math really doesn't help you learn it at all.

However, stats tutors are very hard to find.

My major is psychology, so I'm guessing I won't have to take math. Right? *crosses fingers*

lol you're going to be very disappointed
