Why does it matter where someone gets their ideas and political beliefs from? The end effect is the same. Obama forces a lot of stuff on me that I dont agree with. Getting your beliefs from religion is bad though?

When your only argument is "my religion doesn't agree with it", then yes.

What is wrong with that argument? People get their beliefs from god knows where, we have to scrutinize and attack every source of their ideas?

What is wrong with that argument?

Seriously? Maybe the fact that not everybody in the country follows the religion that particular lawmaker follows?

Much of the stuff you dislike probably came long before Obama, and remember that the Legislative branch makes our laws.

The first amendment for one. Sourcing political platforms from religious morals infringes on a citizen's right to freely practice their religion.

Because when a belief is ONLY a religious belief it means it has no logical basis. If it can be found in religion AND it can be supported by logic then its not merely a religious belief.

Thats not a new definition I'm making. The point is that the complement "religious" in such discussions is used to highlight the above. If the beliefs that are being imposed can be supported with sound arguments, then there is no reason to call them "religious". You would be right if you said that perhaps the word "religious" is demonized in those contexts, that's true.

That doesnt mean that people oppose those beliefs simply because they can be found in some religious text. The Bible, afterall, says to not kill, however nobody opposes that commandment, because it can be supported with sound arguments.

Cause it hurts people and unlike something like economics, there's no logical reason behind the beliefs.

It's basically bigotry based on ignorance and assumption.

because there's no meaning behind that argument. there's no critical thinking that goes along with you believing in something because of what your religion tells you. it'd be the same with any opinion that has no factual basis. it almost has nothing to do with religion.

Yeah I find it weird too. Why do people complain about religious beliefs influencing legislation, but don't complain about feminist beliefs or Marxist beliefs or whatnot influencing politics. The fact of the matter is that a person's beliefs influence the legislation they would put forth.

Hey no body is perfect. I don't consider people religious by where they go but by what they do. God is all that is good. stripping goodness from politics leaves nothing but evil. So politics cannot lower taxes for example because that is good and good wouldn't be allowed in politics if it was truly separation of church and state. True separation of church and state would make state atheist by default. Meaning absolutely nothing of God so a true atheist wouldn't be good because that is too religious for them. (exactly why i don't believe people when they say they are atheist because they sure don't act like it. you don't act atheist for that matter because you are being polite.) no offense at all i probably could of used better wording but i'm not out to say i'm perfect

The onlyprerequisite for being an athiest is disbelief in God. Morals have nothing to do with it; athiests are just as capable of "good" actions as thiests.

There is a difference between a basing a policy off rational arguments to maximise societal benefit and basing a policy off the tenets of a piece of fiction.

Sometimes I wonder ... Is the reason you're hard on it because you're trying hard not to believe it yourself? You obviously aren't secure with other people having a religion, which is why you go out of your way to hurt it.

LOL are you one of those types that took one Psych class in College and suddenly think they're an expert on reading people?

Basing law and policy off of a religion that not everyone agrees with or believes in is barbaric and unfair. The United States Government should be as secular and neutral as possible.

No, I just despise religion.

Yeah, I know people like you. You're all the same.

I'm sure. Just calm down, benny, I know Denny pissed you off and now you have a vendetta against all TDH members, but calm down.
