This thread is for comparing the armed forces and warriors of history with one another. I'll start it off - The U.S. Marines Corps would destroy the British SAS in a skirmish (not a battle, the Marine Corps is a much larger orginisation than the SAS). There. I said it. This thread is not limited to any historical time period (ie Alexander's Companion Cavalry could destroy the Huns in a cavlalry battle)

Yeah, well which force has historically done more? WWII? Vietnam? Yeah, they generally do more. AND they are fantastic warriors with excellent training and equipment.

Well ofcourse you can count Vietnam because the British weren't stupid enough to get invovled. How good a group of soldiers are isn't based on how much they have done, anyway, most of the SAS's operations are classified and you are unlikely to know about.

I think that a better fight would actually be U.S. Army Rangers vs SAS. Both are comparable in size and reputation.
so this is about infantry armed forces? i would say the SAS for the reason that i do believe they can get killed in training if they dont memorize certain codes correctly. i don't think any american special forces including delta, seals, whatever have that option.
im more interested in air combat anyway. USAF vs Isreali Air Force would be a strong fight.
This question is a bit of a non sequitur. The BritishSAS might be more highly trained than the Marine Corps., but the Marines have more support, firepower and manpower. Likewise, pitting the Marine Corps. against the Army in a fight would result in an Army win (most likely) due to sheer manpower and firepower advantages. Either way, I've never trained with, or been in, any of these units so I'll reserve my judgments.
EDIT: Every service is indoctrinated to think that they are the most effective unit/force there is. This fact coupled with the fact that most services keep their training regimes secret will result in fruitless comparisons. Besides, very few, if any, people serve in multiple forces.
I see no ones been to war here. And you can't believe everything you read in history books. Too many factors come into play during a battle, most unforeseen, that will determine victory or defeat. The best on paper often lose.

I really don't think you know what your talking about..The U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Berets) would be comparible and be the match for the S.A.S.
