He's just one soldier, he won't make the difference in the war. The Army is putting a very bad image on itself by taking this one out of a million player away from his dream into the line of fire. It just takes one bullet or IED, just like any other soldier, to kill him.

If he dies, then the Army might be looking at even lower recruits. All this talk about serving your country should be set aside; the Army is definitely not trying to force this one guy for a tactical advantage, but trying to say it's strict on the rules, but who now is going to like them for this?

He's going to be a coach for their football team. So he's in no danger.

There's two ways to look at this: they shouldn't have gotten his hopes up and changed their policy, or, he has to pay back the government for that expensive education they gave him.

The problem is that if he got out of service, then what does that mean? Football players are exempt from the rules of the rest of the population? :|

honestly, he probably won't make a roster. he was drafted because he is somewhat athletic and is in the military. if he was not in the military, he would not have been drafted.

A few months ago, the Army didn't feel that way. It granted Army 2nd Lt. Caleb Campbell, who had been taken by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the NFL draft,CNN

what cnn fails to realize is that there is a difference between a first round selection and a seventh round selection.

That's generally how it works. The military branch puts you through school...you work for them. He signed up for it.

Exactly. I agree. They try to fit your needs, but you work for them, they aren't going to baby you around and treat you special just because your in the NFL.

I doubt he'd have made the Lions team anyway, which is really saying something, since the team is now full of 2002-era Buccaneers.

Good for the army. They shouldn't be letting people off the hook just because they could be doctors or football stars, or because they're rich. You sign up, you should sere, end of story.

He shouldn't get special treatment just because he wants to play. However from what I read they had already told him he could be a recruiter and play so I think they should of honoured their word instead of going back on it.

The problem is guys that the army said if he got drafted they would let him play and let him be a recruiter. It was his dream to play in the NFL. The army went back on its word and its a bad PR move. What would happen if they would have let him play anyway would he be that important to the army.

The solution is to make him sere, and then fire whoeer the hell told him that he would get special treatment. Treat him like anyone else, and then lay the hammer down on whoeer told him that he'd get special treatment.
