Is anyone interested in the topic of Astronomy? My fathers into it alot, and I guess its his favorite hobby, since he has lots of equipment that he plays with outside at night. He often brings me outside with him to view some of the stars. Unfortuately, we live right next to a street light, so light polution is through the roof for us. But still, we are able to get fairly good pictures of the sky, such as this:

Moon

I'm pretty sure he has taken pictures of Saturn, so if anyone is interested I'll post them.

So does anyone treat astronomy as a hobby?

Nice photo. I'd love to see the ones of Saturn. I'm a studying Astrophysicist so astronomy is my daily routine at the moment. Before that it was a hobby where every now and then I'd take the telescope into the back yard for a peak into the sky. But like you I have quite a bit of light pollution which can spoil things.

Okay guys, here is that Saturn picture. (Taken using a DSLR camera mounted "eyepiece projection" on an Orion 6in. imaging reflector telescope. The eyepiece used was a Baader Hyperion 8-24mm zoom lens.) And no, I did not take the photo of the moon, that was my father.

Took an intro class last semester at uni and one in high school. It's pretty interesting stuff, we had night time observation and we saw a huge comet streak across the sky it was awesome.

that is a good picture, my dad has a 8inch celestron? and manages to get excellent views of saturn and other celestial bodies. where i live there is minimal light pollution.

Hmm, not really. You have to have a fairly good-powered scope. But if you save up, your views will be even better than my dad's pictures.

But if you are really into astronomy, try spotting out as many star clusters, constellations, and moons as you can. :)

one questions: there's more nebulas, people can see from the north hemisphere?

I guess I've to find a good astronomy because the only constellation I've seen in my life is Canis Major :P

Yes, there are many more nebulas in the northern hemisphere. Two that come to mind are The North American Nebula in Cygnus, and The Ring Nebula in Lyra.

I do love Astronomy, so much so that I actually want a career in it. I have no idea where to start though.
