At what point for you and yours did MCU movies stop being must see in the theater?

My son and I used to go to every single release starting from Thor (2011) and he would always be like "When are we going to see....?"

...and then Black Widow happened. With the exception of No Way Home, if I asked him if he wanted to see an MCU movie, he says he'll just wait until its on Disney+.

It would have been extremely easy to blame his and my apathy towards the franchise on Eternals, the truth is that the quality of the movies took a steep drop with Black Widow as it should have been a Disney+ miniseries at best. Eternals was just more spectacular in its failings.

I personally lost all interest after Endgame. Outside of the spiderman movies, it all looks like garbage to me. The movies, the D+ shows. The writing, new characters, old characters being changed to fit the crappy writing, the stupid stories that I completely forgot what happened in them after only seeing a little here and there. It's all been so forgettable since Endgame in my opinion. Same thing with Star Wars. Disney just sucks right now. Oh well, plenty of other stuff to consume my time.

I was interested in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness purely because Sam Raimi.

Prior dipped into the tv shows, I only watched CGI because I wanted to have sex with She-Hulk.

While that was airing a similar show "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" was airing, and when you watch the quality of what South Koreans make compared to the decadent West, it's obvious we need to be invaded.

After Covid. And I've done a crap job keeping up at home with home streaming and Disney Plus. Though I did watch Loki and still need to finish Wanda Vision, and I saw the first Spider-Man post Endgame where he went to Europe. I keep telling myself to play catch up, but I've tried watching Black Widow twice and lose interest part way through.

Since the first one, they were always mediocre. But if you put enough money into something you can definitely polish a turd.

They're Sunday afternoon movies to watch half asleep on the sofa while you fart the lunch out. Nothing wrong with that, I can enjoy them like that. But that whole thing where people were claim Endgame was the best movie ever made was nothing short of vomit inducing.

I'm not as down on the whole thing as much as a lot of folks seem to be these days, but I haven't watched any in theaters since Endgame. However, COVID happened, and so did Disney Plus. Everything else aside, I would be reluctant to spend theater money on a movie that I will be able to stream at home within two months.

The newer films have not been as good overall, but the dip is exaggerated, and the peaks before were too. I think they have generally taken the right approach though. Anything following Endgame was going to feel smaller, and they leaned into that instead of trying to keep raising the stakes. Telling smaller scale stories about a mostly new batch of heroes was the right call. People who were burnt out can skip a lot of them without missing much, and with the right marketing push could be brought back when the overarching narative picks up again.

After Endgame, with the exception of Spiderman. I don't mind the lower stakes. The stories just feel bland and way too reliant on spectacle.

Very much. The Infinity War saga was pretty fun and engaging like a roller coaster ride. Now though the MCU is being pushed in excess that it's becoming oversaturated and less like an event that is worth building up to.

Retiring most of the legacy characters that audiences have invested their time towards in exchange for a bunch of lesser characters is a bad move too. Most of the newer characters feel more like a product than characters at all.

The biggest problem right now: the MCU is meandering through a bunch of content yet still not established with a clear goal of what it's trying to build up to.

The Infinity saga you learn early enough the whole Thanos scheme and that there's going to be a showdown that everything will lead up to.

There's been a ton of MCU content since Endgame yet we still don't really have a clue what the direction is or what it's all going to amount to. Just feels like they're throwing a bunch of crap at the wall and hoping some of it will stick. Something-something to do with Kang the Conquerer I suppose, but his character is too elusive and we don't know what his plan is.

Audiences (including myself) are losing interest due to excessive meandering without any clarity what it's ultimately going to boil down to.

Got very tired of superhero movies around after the second Avengers movie. Haven't seen Endgame, really don't want to. Whatever superhero movie that comes now is an instant ignore.

Also saw Wonder Woman and Black Panther, which are probably two of my least favorite movies ever.

I don't go to the theaters at all anymore. Don't even remember when I did that last, was several years ago.

I really enjoyed Black Widow. As far as the question goes though, after Endgame is basically the answer. I have seen Black Widow, Antman, Spiderman, and Thor 4 all in theaters, but I did not go see Shang Chi or The Eternals in theaters (Shang Chi was awesome though).

Endgame gave such a sense of completion and satisfaction that nothing (aside from No Way Home for non-MCU reasons) really felt necessary after that. Then came the massive overload of MCU Disney plus series and it just increased the sense of fatigue I had with the series as a whole. Checking wikipedia right now and it says there's been 8 shows released and I've only seen 3 of them. It just gives me the sense that it's damn near impossible to catch up on those and now that The Marvels has Miss Marvel in it I'm wondering how much of that movie I will even understand. I'm sincerely hoping though that this series will return to being a must see situation.

Never collected Avengers, Thor or Spiderman so I wasn’t gung ho for the movies. I collected Xmen, Alpha Flight & Batman comics. Only recent Marvel films I saw in theatre were Endgame & the Tobey Macguire Spidermans 1 & 2.

I prefer super hero stories like The Boys

After Endgame, I enjoyed No Way Home and the shows WandaVision, Falcon and Loki. But other that, most of the post-Endgame stuff has been dull and boring. I mostly gave up around Eternals, I think. But Loki was a great series and gives me hope for the Kang saga.

Never thought I'd see the day when a video game movie would be dominating Marvel movies at the box office... Yet here we are, Mario wrecking Marvel at the box office.

Me and our concrete contractors in Fairfield CT enjoyed Endgame, No Way Home and Loki. But other that, most of the post-Endgame stuff has been boring.

I think it was after I watched the 1st Black Panther movie. I was already getting tired of superhero movies by then anyway, but the shit was so formulaic at that point, the MCU became the Call of duty/Assasin's Creed of the film industry.

At that point I was pinpointing exactly when an Unnecessary chase scene, drawn-out CGI fight, or Bathos joke was going to happen.

I watched the first Avengers movie and thought it was overrated, so I never really hopped into the MCU hype train. I did enjoy Infinity War and Endgame though. Spider Man No Way Home was also a highlight because of the old cast they brought back. Other than that I never really cared for the MCU and don't understand how even some of the weaker entries in the MCU get glowing reviews.

After End Game for me, then the pandemic.

Last one i saw in theaters was Shang Chi which was cool. But COVID + the fast release to home video really broke my interest in going to the movies. Plus, my home rig is better than the theaters anyway. $20,000 sound system and a 151" screen with a 4K projector, theater seating. If you want to experience and *feel* a movie...to be immersed, you come to my place; not the theater.

I saw the first Iron Man in theatres and that was it.

I've watched a lot of the others just by borrowing the blu ray from my library but after Endgame I don't even want to bother with that.

After End Game. And even before that most were "meh".

Nothing comes close to The Winter Soldier for MCU. It's even a good movie in general imo not only a good comic book movie.

Avengers End Game was probably the last Marvel movie I enjoyed though I saw it at home. I did enjoy Spiderman Homecoming especially Michael Keaton as Vulture. Spiderman No Way Home I enjoyed as well though a bit too long. Last Marvel movie I saw was Thor Love and Thunder and it was hilarious though dragged too long. I used to always go see Marvel movies like Iron Man 2, Thor 2, Avengers, Amazing Spiderman 2, Antman, with my nephews and brothers though since COVID 19, I just see them on Disney Plus. I think after the death of Stan Lee is when I lost interest in these movies as Marvel was like with lightening in the bottle with the first 10 years then after that it was like what happens next.

After "Avenger's: Endgame."

Truth be told, theaters never really held much magic for me outside of simply being a way to see a movie earlier than I could on video, and now with movies being rentable mere weeks after being in theaters, it's as pointless as ever (for me, at least).

Add to this the mediocrity of the Marvel movies in general, but especially after what phase Endgame wrapped up, and I just am not that enthusiastic.

I have really enjoyed the series (Loki, Ms Marvel, She-Hulk, and others) for the most part, but the movies have been very "meh".

"Thor: Love and Thunder" was fun but honestly the cast carried that one, I didn't really think it was all that impressive from a cinematic standpoint, but I'm no critic so WTF do I know.

Endgame is the perfect closure. How u gonna top Thanos wiping out half of human? I watched Dr. Strange movie and its just garbage and skipped marvel since.

I consider Spiderman a separate entity cause its more of a Marvel x Sony thing. Really enjoyed Venom and Carnage. Never seen morb tho.

After the first Guardians of the Galaxy, I took a break. It was always my comic-book loving friend who convinced me to go see them in theaters. I picked the Marvel films back up last year and have been wiping out the backlog so to speak.

Like others have said, they’re not good movies (most of them, anyways), but I’m watching them as a sort of cultural study. My conclusion so far is that our culture is becoming blander by the minute. The idea of the superhero fascinates me, however. I even picked up comics recently for the first time.

Besides, if I didn’t force myself to watch Marvel films, I would be one of the most pretentious, Criterion film type of people around. A little junk helps me stay humble.

Never thought of them as must see tbh. I checked out on them way early on, might have watched a couple of their "phase 2" movies as the last.

Can't even remember what it was, but one of their movies that got the "omg best thing ever!" treatment, I went to go see with my GF at the time. We looked at each other about 30 mins in, no words were needed, just left the theatre lol.

Maybe I've missed some fun watches since, but not worried about it. No way I'm gonna sort through everything they've put out to see what's what.
