While there is a thread on this already, I'll say this: non-theists spend more time exploring all religions in order to justify their beliefs, theists, on the other hand, generally study one particular religion or doctrine. Therefore, overall, a non-theist would know more about religion as a whole than a theist. I don't see many Christians studying the holy books of Hinduism.

It makes sense. Theists usually focus one one religion while non theists try to explore all of them.

Nope, the core concept of Faith has nothing to do with knowledge. You either have faith, or your don't Simple as that.magicalclick
Then what's the point of church and Sunday school? Christian private schools? Even talking about the subject in the first place? You are saying that nobody needs to ask questions about how the universe works, or about morality, or anything else that religion attempts to answer?

Church and sunday school isn't to provide evidence to build faith. It's to bring you to a closer understanding of God and doctrine. Faith doesn't require knowledge for the simple fact that if you have knowledge you don't need faith. And faith is the point of Christianity (in this example). I think that came out right.

Not a big surprise, a lot of them are those who think the Earth is 6000 years old anyways.

There is a thread already but I would say a theist knows more about his particular religion than say a non-theist. But a non-theist would know more as a whole, as they would study more religions generally than would a theist who concentrates on his particular religion.

ROFL And yeah, I'm tired of this subject already. It's really not that shocking as others have already explained.

Although I'm religious , I have to agree , most religious people think their religion is the only right thing of all , so they dont bother searching about the others .However my religion is special , it obliges you to look for other religions to know that yours is right , and it is forbidden to believe in GOD just cuz your religion or parents are , you have to think about it first .

But something else this survey showed, is that a lot of religious people don't even know important things about their own religion... which suggests that many of them probably don't go for the religion itself, but merely the community.

I personally find nothing surprising about this.

Did you even take the test? When they think the earth was made has nothing to do with scoring on it.

Yup, they have nothing to do with Faith. For faith, there is nothing to talk about, and they are simply bored.

I agree, they do not try the slightest to convince people and give them faith, church only gives the "teachings of Jesus Christ".
