Just came home from watching District 9, was told by a friend the avatar trailer was out, so took a look... Um, the CGI in the first scene when coming out of the ship, doesn't look much better then real time in-game graphics...

The rest looks better, but it has this cartoony look, for all the talk of photo-realism, District 9 was photo realistic this is... not. Infact, the art style as they fly through the floating islands looks like they actually went for an illustrated kind of look. I always thought they were aiming for realism with this movie?

Did you take a time machine into the future to see those in-game graphics?

The best looking game that I can think of is still Crysis, and the graphics don't even approach cinema quality visual effects.

After reading the brief plot overview on wikipedia, by immediate thought was "Dances with Elves"...

Look at the start of the thing, it does look like an in-game cutscene. Even the main guy, who I assume was played by the actor, looks like CGI. It's just done really badly there...

The rest might be an art style choice? But either way it is not photo-realistic, it's cartoony, and those floating islands, looking at it again, they're not even trying to go for a photo-realistic look, it's obviously an illustrated look. So yeah, it looks nice in a way, but god knows what they were told to aim for look wise.

I've been looking forward to this movie for ages, and I still am, I'm sure it'll be great, it's just odd the way the CGI has ended up considering what they said they were aiming for, thier budget, and what they've come up with.

I have been excited for this film and the trailer has only increased my hype. It looks fantastic. Nothing wrong with the special effects either.. they are state of the art. :?

Obviously you guys haven't seen the real IMAX 3D footage of Avatar. It looks amazing, can't argue with that. Gamespot freaks over TEASER trailers.

I'm not saying it all looks bad, it definetly has it's moments (well, we're judging all this on a trailer). But bits definetly look really bad, like the first bit. It's not really that impressive, and it's not like I haven't seen this level of CGI years ago.

Whether or not it'll look better in imax, I'll have to wait and see, but from that trailer, the CGI at least, isn't really a selling point.

You haven't seen the IMAX 3D footage. The Na'vi's looks so much better. Your all judging this on a teaser. Just wait, I'm pretty sure the footage will come online. But it looks better in IMAX 3D. Like I said, gamespot freak out over TEASER freaking trailers.
