I saw it yesterday and I'll say this: It's worth watching once. The visuals are stunning and the creatures/plant-life are fascinating, BUT it's majorly cliched, the plot is pretty bad, and in general a lot of it just makes no sense.
I was amused by the movie at first (nothing amazing, it was simply fun) but near the end I started anaylzing and really paying attention to what I was watching and it immediately fell apart. As long as you can keep you're mind relatively blank and just enjoy the visuals you'll find it fun, but it's lack of depth keeps it from being a true 'epic' in my opinion.

I agree with all of thisMovie is probably the best movie of the year and that is saying something considering all the good movies that came out this year. Visuals alone will sell this movie to everyone and it has a good story even though other people on here seem to knock it. James Cameron has been working on this movie since 1994 but waited to actually start production on it till technology had improved to make the visuals good which is why the movie seems so polished.
It's a lot like a Star Wars movie. Amazing CGI for it's time, great plot and setting, fantastic action, likeable but somewhat flat characters, and overall just ridiculous yet thrilling adventure.
Saw it yesterday in 3D. Visually, it's quite the stunner. The story however really could have used a bit more polish. You'll see relations to The Matrix, Star Wars, and a few other of your older favorites that in a way tell you exactly where the story is going at all times. I don't want to give any plot spoilers to anyone reading the thread, but again, you're not going to be seeing any major plot-curves in this one so long as your aren't solely fixated on the visuals. As everyone has pretty much already mentioned, the battle scenes are indeed epic feeling, and the movies pace kept up pretty well (it's a large soda with a refill length movie). Worth your money first time around, but now that I've seen it, I can wait for the blu-ray edition before going to see it again.
