The leader of Easy Company, Major Dick Winters has passed away at the age of 92.

For all of those that have read the book or have seen the Spielberg/Hanks produced HBO miniseries, you will know what kind of man has been lost.

I thought that show was based loosely based on real people. Not actual people. Well now I know.

R.I.P. I thank him for his service.

Wow, I really feel like crying. I have become attached to Winters when I read the Band of Brothers book and also from watching the amazing HBO series. He is such a great hero for this country and will surely be missed by everyone. I might have to watch the Band of Brother series this week in honor of him.

I was just writing a thing on Band of Brothers a few weeks back, and I was just looking up dates and stuff. I remember seeing news about other vets from Easy going years back, while Winters kept hanging on.

RIP, for sure. A true American hero to every sense of the word.

You are really missing out. It is probably the best WWII movie or show out there. IMO at least. Good character development. My favorite "character" aside from Winters was Carwood Lipton (Donnie Wahlberg) I really liked the Pacific (another HBO series) too, but for some reason the Pacific theater of WWII does not hold as much interest to me. I know that sounds terrible, but alot of people feel the same way. Almost like the war against Germany had some sort of "romance" to it. Not in the way most would think. It is just so much more eerie. Kind of reminds me of that feeling I would get when playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Just throwing this out there, but every guy I've ever met/know/heard of with the name Dick is either mean, or a badass.

Just look at Dick Butkus.

In my opinion, yes. Saving Private Ryan is great, but it just fails in comparison to BoB. The obvious reason is that Saving Private Ryan was a single movie, so the story arc and character development is not nearly as good as the 10 part BoB.

Interesting tidbit of information I picked up.. even though Winters said that quote in the video interview, the quote is actually Mike Ranney's (Ranney's grandson asked him the famous question). But regardless, he is a hero.
