It's a simple question, what band, in your opinion, is the greatest of the new millenium. Try to limit it to bands that formed or released their debut album after 1999.

For me, there's no doubt about it, it has to be Mastodon, no other band comes close.

The Mars Volta without a doubt. Nobody can compare. Omar Alfredo Rodriguez-Lopez is a creative uber-genius.

Honestly, when people look back at this time in many years, they will see Nickelback in the light that we see bands like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin now, which is pretty sad.

They make great music, but doing a concept album about a oiji board kinda puts me off. They're still probably my favorite so far though.

I think The Mars Volta is a little overrated. They are very good, of course, but like you said, sometimes they get so experimental that their songs become un-listenable.

gotta be Mastodon. Sleeping Giant and March of the Fire Ants are aboslutely AMAZING. They are one of my favourite bands ever, yet alone of this century.

mostly death, with a few thrash and groove influences thrown in.

Yeah, but I think they're getting a little better about that. Their new CD has a pretty stupid concept behind it, but they took out a lot of the spacey-quiet stretches that cluttered their older CDs. I think if they keep in this direction they could become one of the best bands out there.

hmmm...Arctic Monkeys, guess Muse don't count. So yeah some indie bands, The Shins, Interpol, Bloc Party, prehaps one of them can do something outstanding wityh their music and make the jump to legendary. As of now, none really, my fave is the Arctic Monkeys though.

Silversun Pickups had a great debut. Another one of favorites but they are too up and coming to call band of the millenium.

Yeah so true, but they had 2 ep's before there debut, there both amazing, very phychedlic yet accustic and mellow at the same time. There the band to watch out for in the years to come.

How is it stupid?

It's the perfect sequel to Amputechture. Amputechture is about seperating shamanic religions from their stereotypical view that the western world holds of them.

Bedlam is taking the idea a step further and showing the true power of divination and spirit-seeking.

The Bedlam In Goliath is probably one of my favorite of their albums, next to Deloused In Comatorium. They need to find their style though and stick to it.

Also, I just like to say, that though I said Arcade Fire was my band of the milenium, I might also put Shout Out Louds before them. Though, they had only released 2 albums. However, they are a spectacular band and have a huge amount of potential. Anyone who is familiar with them gets a cookie.

I want to say Porcupine tree, but they formed in the late 80s, their new stuff is incredible though. Damn i don't who to choose, so much mediocrity.

it starting to look like this decade will end up a lot like the '80s, where nobody notices any of the good bands until we're all looking back and see the underground stuff, just substitute glam metal for emo.
