[QUOTE="hillelslovak"]U2 has just been shoveling out the same generi-rock for the last ten years. And Coldplay's music is just boring and overly sappy with no direction. The only band that I like that's actually gotten worse is Weezer (seriously? rapping? WTF?!?!?!?)Nifty_Shark

I totally forgot about Weezer, does everyone remember the awesome days of this band, just fun 90's music.

bah. Can't get it in the country I'm currently in. I'm just happy they created that Buddy Holly song. It's enough to make me happy that the band was created.

Yea the song i posted was Buddy Holly, great music video too.

Pretty much every single band I know, even my favorites.

R.E.M. were amazing up until New Adventures In Hi-Fi (1996), they were able to release 10 impressive albums in a 16-year span. After that they were not the same and the quality declined even though their other four albums are still quite good.

Pink Floyd was fantastic until The Wall. Final Cut is good but not as good as the others, and as for Momentary Lapse of Reason (David's solo album) and The Division Bell those are just terrible.

Queen's first CD is not great, but after that they kept releasing amazing albums until The Game. After that it seems that all songwriting skills they had were lost.

The Rolling Stones wrote their masterpiece in 1972 (Exile on Main Street) but after that they completely lost their way and failed to recreate the magic of the beginning of their careers even though you can still find some good albums after 72 such as Some Girls and Tattoo You.

Led Zepellin had an amazing start with their first four albums and unfortunately Houses of the Holy was not on par with their first albums, they wrote another amazing album in Physical Graffiti but after that one both Presence and In Through the Out Door are bad to average albums.

So yeah, as I said pretty much all bands go through that.

Black Sabbath (post-Mob Rules definitely wasn't as good, although I still enjoy a good deal of it), Metallica, AC/DC (although Black Ice was great)

Eh, PH is the only song I didn't really care for, the rest was pretty much perfect IMO:P

Heir Apparent and Lotus Eater are great, but I didn't care for the others. Heir Apparent would be awesome live!

I agree with Weezer. I had that song stuck in my head a few days ago. The Blue album and Pinkerton were great.

Then there's other artists Opeth too has been going that direction, although it's not terrible just yet. It's just not up to par with their past material.

Ghost Reveries was really good though. Watershed wasn't great, but it's the only album they've put out that I don't love.

Really? I hated Ghost Reveries. That and Watershed both featured some of the most lackluster songwriting they've ever done (see: The Grand Conjuration and Porcelain Heart). Both albums were good for the first 3-4 tracks. Ghost of Perdition is fantastic (Beneath the Mire is good too), so is Heir Apparent and The Lotus Eater. The rest of both albums was just meh to me.

Damn... it seems I'm the only one that loved Watershed >_>

You're not alone. I prefer Watershed to Ghost Reveries but of course their past stuff is better.

IMO, Ghost Reveries is amazing until The Grand Conjurgation. Ghost of Perdition, Baying of the Hounds, Beneath the Mire, Atonement, and one of my favorite Opeth songs, Reverie/Harlequin Forest are amazing.

ever single band ever, its gonna happen at some point. their stuff begins to stale, then they decide to experiment and try a new sound, then the fans hate it and condem the band and tell them to get back to their old stuff

Those are the other two tracks on the album that I don't mind. Hessian Peel seems like a wasted effort, and Porcelain Heart is just bad. Then again it's like Ghost Reveries. I like Ghost of Perdition and Reverie/Harlequin Forest quite a bit. Beneath The Mire and Baying Of The Hounds were both tracks I didn't mind, but the rest was mediocre and The Grand Conjuration is probably their worst song ever.

Incorrect, there are bands out there that know when they made their magmum opus and don't make anything after that (See: Bolt Thrower, At The Gates, Emperor, etc.) And bands that just know how to stay true:P

Bloc party for me. nothing can be as semtimental as silent alarm, though i still like their new stuff, and i dont think they got too much worse. also fall out boy comes in to mind. take this to your grave was a decent attempt and post punk/alt but boy did they go downhill with from under the cork tree....

On Watershed, they included more death metal components (blast beats, faster guitar parts from Akesson, etc.) which is fine, but it seems like they're trying too hard to be progressive.

I will stop with the music threads soon dont worry:P Anyway my choice is Genesis, phil collins made them crap later on.

Film-Guy
Genesis was fine with Phil Collins, the the invisible touch album was a joke. Bands that got worse include Bush, Nine Inch Nails, and Metalica. Many bands had a number of great albums until stinking up the music industry with their final recording.

Not all bands get worse with time... I think they kind of go through phases of different quality. For example, Judas Priest released Painkiller in 1990, 20 years after they started. There is such a thing as a second wind.

The Killers, amazingly fresh album with Hot Fuss sung in a faux Brit rock style. Then for some reason they decided to go Nevada style on us and completely lost the plot.
