@ battlefront23 You know what I mean.LordsLossI guess... It's too much of a stretch and a generalization though. Popularity for a band =/= bad band

Every band that sounds similar to another band is crap? So EVERY band is crap?Being an avid metalcore fan, from an outsider's looking in perspective I could see why you would think they all sound similar.. But compare We Came as Romans to August Burns Red? The only real similarity is the fact that both are metalcore... Otherwise they could not be more different. :PEvery single stupid metal core band. Alot of metal music sounds the same also.... Heavy riffs and things of that sort.
Papadrach
Compared to..?Good Charlotte and Simple Plan sound very very similar.
Not surprisingly, both bands are not very good.

Morrisey as a person or as a musician? He's an ass but has shown that he can sing and write well.
dream theater are really popular. Same with Iron Maiden, Radiohead, Muse etc. :lol:FFS. First of all, I said USUALLY and secondly, they're not the kind of popular I'm talking about. I'm talking about POPULAR popular. Like, the Teenage girls with half a brain all obsess over them sort of popular...[QUOTE="xTheExploited"]

There are a few songs where I can't stand his voice, but for the most part I enjoy the Smiths a lot, and as you mentioned, Morrissey is an amazing songwriter.

I've never had a problem with his voice. I like it quite a bit, in fact.

Me too. Ever since 500 Days of Summer, I can't get enough of The Smiths..[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]Compared to..?Good Charlotte and Simple Plan sound very very similar.

Well, some bands I like are The Beatles, The Stones, Genesis, The Grateful Dead, The Doors, Sly and the Family Stone, Queen, Radiohead, Wilco, Prince and the Revolution, NPG, among many others.
But even not going off of bands I'm a fan of, I still think they're not very good. For instance, I'm not a big fan of Greenday, but they are a hell of alot better than Simple Plan or Good Charlotte.
And that much I would agree with. But I do think there is far worse.. The genre of pop punk doesn't have many good bands, but the bands that are good are VERY good IMO.[QUOTE="battlefront23"][QUOTE="GreySeal9"]But even not going off of bands I'm a fan of, I still think they're not very good. Well, yeah, there is far worse. I'm just saying that I don't think they're very good, not that they are the most terrible trash out there. To say that would definitely be hyperbole.

It's very unique..It makes some songs better because of how well it fits in (Still Ill for example). But there are some songs where I don't like Morrissey's voicewith Marr's guitar work. That's just my opinion..But then again, my knowledge about the Smiths isn't the greatest (besides Meat is Murder and a handful of tracks I've checked out).
I guess people can be overly critical of music that they wouldn't like to begin with... For instance, I really can not say, with much authority, that any said country artist is 'garbage' because I wouldn't like it regardless of if it was truly 'garbage' compared to other country music. I definitely feel like many OT members, metalheads in particular, harp on metalcore (one of my favorite genres) without having a true realization that it isn't 'bad', it's just not something they would enjoy. If that makes sense..Well, yeah, there is far worse. I'm just saying that I don't think they're very good, not that they are the most terrible trash out there. To say that would definitely be hyperbole.
