But are either extremely hated on the Internet or nobody ever talks about them on the Internet.
I was just thinking about how i hear a lot of people talk about music on the Internet and mention a whole bunch of bands (various ones) that are widely acclaimed by Internet users, people on music discussion forums, etc. And then when I go to school the next day, not so much as a single soul knows who they are or likes their music. And then I began thinking the opposite is true as well.
For example, Enrique Iglesias is incredibly popular where I live and my family can't seem to get enough of them (and before anyone is inclined to judge my music taste, no, I do NOT like him). I think a few months ago now, my uncle paid for tickets to one of his shows in Toronto and him, his wife, his stepdaughter, her boyfriend, my mom and my sister all went. The next day, they were all having conversations with their friends and co-workers about how amazing he was. He also seems to be on every girl's playlist around where I live, whether they be in their teens, 20s, 30s or 90s! Even some males around here admit to liking some of his music! I then go on the Internet, and rarely anybody says a word about him. I understand that a specific set of pop artists are popular in music bashing sessions on the Internet (your Lady Gagas, One Directions, Justin Biebers), but not once is he ever mentioned on the Internet. Same thing with Pitbull. Everyone where I live can't seem to get enough of him, my family always talks about how good of a performer he is. Not mentioned on the Internet. Same thing.
Similar case with Justin Bieber. You would think that he is the defining paradigm of crappy teen pop based on what people all around the Internet say. In real life however, everyone around here absolutely LOVES him or respects him, or even both. Even the people here who don't like him seem to admit that he has talent, everyone that hates are jealous of his success, he has a great singing voice, etc.
I just think it's amazing how different people that I interact with on the Internet are compared to people that I interact with in daily life. Why does this occur? Has anybody noticed this? Or is it just me? What bands/artists are like this from your experience?
