Bangladesh has become the second nation to block Facebook, because the website is publishing caricatures of the prophet Muhammad.
Thoughts? Should every person in a country lose access to a website for any reason?

facebook is trash, just people posting useless updates that no one cares about
I honestly couldn't care if every country banned it, and twitter.
By that note shouldn't they just block the entire internet? How about just censoring any form of freedom of speech? seriously Bangladesh, Pakistan, GROW UP.
The thing with the media is that normally the loudest get heard. The people of Bangladesh and Pakistan who are ok with people exercising their right to freedom of speech on facebook won't make a fuss about it, but those lunatics who have banners saying "DEATH TO AMERICA" and other things protesting in the streets will be heard.Wow.... I don't use Facebook myself, but don't you think that people in Bangladesh and Pakistan won't use it if they find it offensive....

[QUOTE="topsemag55"]Should every person in a country lose access to a website for any reasonBiancaDKNo, not unless the majority of the people in the country collectively decide to allow the government to babysit the people living in the country.
Has the Danish government ever blocked a website that you know of?

Certainly not that I know of, no. More likely it'll be danish websites getting blocked by other countries if anything.[QUOTE="topsemag55"][QUOTE="BiancaDK"] No, not unless the majority of the people in the country collectively decide to allow the government to babysit the people living in the country.BiancaDK

Certainly not that I know of, no. More likely it'll be danish websites getting blocked by other countries if anything.I don't recall (offhand) any websites blocked by the U.S.; however, the government has shut down websites before, such as phishing sites, market scams, and so on.
[QUOTE="topsemag55"]Kinda' weird that the ISPs can't handle that themselves.I don't recall (offhand) any websites blocked by the U.S.; however, the government has shut down websites before, such as phishing sites, market scams, and so on.

ISPs aren't going to shut down people who are throwing money at them.
Millions of other people do, but that's why you are special! Well, I am too. I ****ing hate facebook.facebook is trash anyway. i dont see whats so great about.

The ISPs block known phishing sites, but it's the government that steps in afterward to make arrests and do the actual shutdown.
You asked about blocked websites though, not the shutdown of websites. Blocking is one thing, dismantling it another. I'm not really sure what we are discussing here now tbh. =PThe ISPs block known phishing sites, but it's the government that steps in afterward to make arrests and do the actual shutdown.

Just that as far I know the U.S. has never purposely blocked websites. They shut them down instead - kind of like a banhammer.
[QUOTE="Espada12"]phishing sites throw money at ISPs? Or what are you getting at now?ISPs aren't going to shut down people who are throwing money at them.
BiancaDK
Oh, I was referring to those scam sites and such, they still have to pay for hosting :P, and it's probably due legal concerns why ISPs don't directly shut down people, they probably don't want to go through the trouble.
People sure do like to get worked up over religion. It's kind of funny that I often see the excuse that they don't like drawings of Mohammed because they don't want to idolize him, and yet it seems like the real reason they all get worked up over these cartoons is that they DO idolize him already.
Of course, with politicians, you can never really be too sure if their convictions are genuine or if they are just trying to win over part of the populace. Wouldn't that be funny, if many of the political leaders that do this stuff actually weren't very religious, kind of like how in this country so many of the "family values" people end up being the ones who are hiring prostitutes and other crap like that?
