Mortal Kombat (1995) is a better constructed movie, although it has some flaws. Street Fighter (1994) is fun, but it's basically about watching Raul Julia's final film and Zangief---quick, change the channel!
My vote goes to MK as I remember when I was 10yrs old, everyone who was a fan of the arcade game lost our shits when we saw both Sub-Zero and Scorpion for the first time and yeah, the director didn't disappoint us fans.
Cup got it right.
Though of the two in the OP, gonna go MK.
Dav, bro, gotta stop stealing other peoples posts/tweets/articles, etc.
The Mortal Kombat franchise still embraces the 1995 movie by acknowledging it and making references to it. It's clear that this movie has had an everlasting impact on the franchise. A few of the main actors still proudly talk about it to this day.
Street Fighter is a fun movie that gets mentioned occasionally, but is essentially a footnote in the Street Fighter franchise. While Jean Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue are arguably more recognizable names than any of the actors from MK, you'd hardly find them talk about the movie in any interview nowadays.
MK by far.
Street fighter movie is parody. van damme as guile as protagonist??? Ryu is minor character??
LOL who wrote that shit!!?
@fenriz275:
I was a middle schooler when these movies dropped. Even then, live action SF was a disappointment, but the MK movie? Thought that shit was amazing lol.
Street Fighter The Movie I never saw till USA Network aired the movie on TV. It was horrible except for Raul Julia's as M. Bison in his final role. Mortal Kombat for me as I remember seeing the VHS movie as a kid in the 90's and it's a better movie and actually has fighting and makes sense story wise and Goro looked amazing.
Winrar.
This is the correct answer. Street Fighter II anime is better than both the live-action movies combined... But out of the two live-action movies, Mortal Kombat easily wipes the floor with Street Fighter! It was better in every way, from the story and action to the visuals and music.
The SF live-action movie could've been saved though, if they had just adapted the Street Fighter II anime into a live-action movie. The plot should've been written around Ryu and Ken, not Guile, and Jean-Claude Van Damme should've been cast as Ken instead of Guile. As for Ryu, there were a number of rising action stars they could've cast, e.g. Brandon Lee when he was still alive (possibly circumventing his death in The Crow), or a rising Hong Kong star (like Jackie Chan or Jet Li).
