Which one?

By rich, I mean rich. Like Bill Gates style rich. Except you'll be forgotten the moment you die.

By immortalized in history, I mean people as famous as Napolean, Washington, Caesar, MLK, Lincon. You will actually do somethign great and change the world.

The people historians spend their entire lives researching, and people will quote you, and know who you are and what you did, long after your death. There will be documentaries and movies about your life, and your name and face will be carved in statues and pictures. Basically, you will never be forgotten, and everyone long after your death will still know you, because you changed the world.

However, you aren't going to be rich, you might end up suffering, or other stuff.

So, your choice?

EDIT: For greatness, you will actually do somethign great and change the world.

Rich - what's the point in being popular when you're dead? I rather have the money now to buy what I want and ensure I provide my family with what they need to be successful.

Well Imortalized in history would mean that I probably had an exciting life and I made a difference (hopefully for the better) in the world. I mean I don't really care how I'm remembered after I'm dead, but thats the sort of life I'd like to live.

Why can't I use my infinite wealth to fund a army force to conquer the world? That way people will remember my name in the future and I'll be rich :P.

Rich; you only live once.

Atleast, you make it sound like sudden fame without actually doing anything..
If you are talking doing extremely important work throughout your life, and earning it, like Ghandi or someone similar, than I would rather have helped humankind for the better rather than be rich.

I would take the money, and then I would use some of my money to help charities and the poor from across the world. I would also use some of my money to have planes fly over countries and drop boxes of bacon in them. Through all my acts of generosity, I would become well-known, but because I am so darn rich, all of the donations I made would not dent my wallet.

I would have both fame and fortune. 8)

That's what i was thinking too, like if you take the green pill (rich) or the yellow (immortalized) and then unknowingly take the yellow one thinking that you will be a great person in life, but it's actually full of poison and your immortalization would be that you were the idiot who took the yellow pill thinking it would make you famous. WHAT A TWIST??

Money means nothing to me and there's no price tag attached to the things I want out of life; however, being immortalized in history isn't something I'm after either. Just being able to make an impact in the lives of people around me and knowing that I'll live on through their hearts and deeds ismore than enough for a person suchas myself.

And oh, whats with the sudden increase of threads relating to mortality huh? On the first page of OT there's these ones:

- Would you want to live for an eternity, ON EARTH??

-Possible ways to achieve eternal youth and immortality (somewhat immortal)

- and this oneCipherZilla

Wow, does everyone think like me?:P I created a thread about just that topic 30 minutes ago. There has been a sudden intrigue into the subject of death lately here at gamespot... Look at the thread on the first page that says, "off-topic in the off topic board"?

Definitely rich. People weren't going to remember me anyway, and I have no desire to be remembered in such a way. Being rich means I would be able to enjoy a fair bit more freedom in my life. I'm quite sensible with money anyway, so it wouldn't go to my head. I'd probably live totally normally, just with fewer restrictions and no money related stress I guess.

i know, i want to slap people when they say "I dont care about money" sometimes.

So long as you can be a good person, go out and grab all the money you can, its fun buying the stuff you and your loved ones want, and it sucks not being able to.

I wanted to say both but these threads must usually have completely extreme options with some sort of drawback to spark interest and show where our nature is at Miss Bianca and saying anything other than those would make us look like "that" kid, truly a predicament D:

I do not want to be rich. If i wanted to be rich, i´d be rich.

If i became rich, due to some hypothetical scenario, i would simply give it to some cause i would deem worthy.

But then i did not become rich in this hypothethical scenario due to me wanting to obtain richess: At the very most, it is because i would want someone else to gain an exceptional amount of monetary wealth.

no, I care about the future, but the human race is going to rise and fall, fade and prosper, regardless of my actions. So while I could become famous for some feat, and thus become remembered, I would much rather take immediate wealth which ensures the prosperity of myself, my family, and my descendents. At least I can guarentee them that.

Not to mention all the countless good I could do with unlimited wealth; I would much rather be an unknown investor that funded the doctors that cured AIDS, than a poor guy that became famous by curing AIDS.

Well the TC didn't specify how I'd be going down in history. Say you would by sacrificing yourself and saving thousands in some heroic act or w/e. For humanity's prosperity those thousands>1 bloodline lost.

while it is hard to resist favoring such a cut and dry example (sacrifice self to save thousands), one could argue charity over a lifetime would save far more than a few thousand.

lets look at Africa: with a lot of money, I could hire mercenary groups to combat and eradicatethe warlords, establish orphanages and schools to take care of war orphans, buyout the organized religion and get some sex education there (condoms for everyone!), establish agricultural centers so people could learn to farm, and more.

On one hand it seems selfish to say "No, I want to be rich, I dont want to sacrifice myself to save those people"

On the other hand, one can argue its selfish to seek fame and glory and waste yourself, when by living and becoming wealthy you could do more good.

Sorry, but no they're not. The vast majority of people aren't remembered today. Anyways, I'd choose immortalized in history, as long as I got to choose what for. It's one of my dreams, actually, to leave a lasting impact on the world.

Immortalized in History. Money only lasts while Im alive. Id rather be remembered after I die than have all the money in the world.
