A university of Texas proves that beautiful looking people are more happier and successful than ordinary looking people .

Read the Article HERE .

OT ?

Whats your thought on the article ? Do you agree beautful people've better sex lives and better oppurtunities in life ( Job ) than ordinary looking folks ?

Its true ...imo , Good looking people are more happier and have better sex lives as they always getting attention and praise from opposite sex and everyone else PLUS regarding job a good looking candidate with quality is first preference .

Debate :)

It's hardly a surprise. If they really believe they're beautiful then that's one less thing they have to worry about.

They are comfortable with who they are, have a good amount of confidence because of it, and can go out and use that to make things happen.

Most beautiful people are probably still mildly depressed maniacs like the rest of us anyway.

The word Beautiful is entirely subjective. All it matters is opinion, For example I might thinks someone is bad-looking but they might think they are beautiful so obviously they will feel more confident. This study proves nothing.

Beauty being subjective means very little in terms of devaluing beauty though.

this is old news. it's been apparent for some time that people who are attractive often fair better than those who are not.

the points of contention are few.

1. what responsability do the attractive people have to the rest of the community who are not as fortunate.

2. and should we do anything about it to ensure ugly people have the same oppurtunities as those who embody the ideal form of the human eye.

the responsability falls on the entire population when it comes to defining what is attractive, and what is successful. IF the ugly people hold the attractive people in high esteem, even if there were more ugly people than attractive people. Then the ugly people are just as likely to blame for this divergance of sucess based on apperance.

I don't know about the "happier" or "successful" parts...But I think looks definitely give an advantage to those things.

No surprise really, if you're happy with the way you look then that brings confidence which makes life easier. But still, many plain looking or even ugly people are successful, happy and have a partner so it's no big deal, just what you make of it.

There's probably been hundreds of articles on this it's not new news its obvious if anything. Pretty girls can marry rich men older or young and not have to work living a fortunate life. They can also get jobs easier, just about anywhere. EX: Weather girls ;) Then the hot moms (usually) make hot daughters and the hot daughters have connections to other wealthy families and the cycle continues. Average/Ugly girls are going to have a tough time marrying a wealthy man and getting jobs. Now of course we can say wealth and material objects don't make you happy. Okay then, I'm sure everyone knows how insecure women are already even pretty ones, it doesn't help your self esteem at all when you see beautiful looking girls walk by and wish you looked like that. Guys on the other hand lets be honest they can be successful regardless of looks for the most part haha. They just need to have a good personality/ be outgoing and they're set.

That would explain why I'm so happy and more successful with each passing year :D

But to the topic at hand..... so many things in the article are silly.

"10 percent happier." That is so relative. It's not that easy to numerically quantify 'happy.'

It also mentions that the interviewers rated the peoples attractiveness. That is so abstract and up to interpretation. For example, I have no idea why people think Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie are considered 'hot.'

This article is crap since beauty is a subjective concept. Also many people who look beautiful on the outside are not good people on the inside which is not so beautiful after all.

while beauty is indeed subjective for the most part, it's ridiculous to negate its objective qualities. you can objectively quantify beauty very easily and generate a universal standard of beauty.

Totally false. I can think of a lot of good-looking, wealthy people who died from drug overdoses and had psychological problems. No need for a debate.

completely false. i've been told i'm good looking (i was asked to model once) and all it did was give me a very temporary confidence boost. i'm fairly confident around girls and other people, but because i know i can make some of them laugh and entertain them, not because i think i'm good looking. and good looks, especially in males is very very very subjective. the trick really is just to be happy with yourself

Beauty isn't only on the outside, you can be the a horrible person and be beautiful and people won't like you more for that. Yes, it's true that prettier people get better jobs, but if you don't have the brains for the job, it won't do a big difference either. We live in a shallow world, and that's a fact.

Yes, i knew that this post will be interpreted the wrong way by somebody. It's not that proclaimed myself as good looking out of boredom, it's an opinion i formed about myself based on other people's opinions. I've had girls saying that i'm handsome, i've had a few girlfriends that other have considered very good looking and that's why i think that about myself. Yes, chances are i might be wrong but this is an entirely subjective matter, you might consider me ugly or just dislike me as someone else might and has considered me good looking, so debate is unnecessary. End of discussion?

No, it is not 'entirely subjective' as you put it, in fact scientists have shown that there are certain face shapes/types that most people of the opposite sex find attractive.

When you've viewed a video of a guy with no arms and no legs speaking to a room full of teenage students, and telling them how to be happy and feel good about themselves, it makes you realize that what you have counts for something.

I can agree to that but the word beauty is so delicate. I know some have been sayings its to the eye of the beholder (and thats true to some extent) but it goes for beyond that. Its subjective, objective and in most cases proclaimed.

It's not a very reliable study though. Apparently it was carried out in only 4 countries and the "attractiveness" of the person was rated only by the interviewer which is, by far, not representative enough.
