I love some of the classical musicians like Chopin but for more modern music I love artists like Mono, The Divine comedy, The Album leaf, and certain Nick Cave songs among tons of others I cant think of right now. There are some beatiful modern songs. This is a personal favorite of mine.

Funny how a lot of the most beautiful songs are also quite sad and tragic.

Stop Swimming by Porcupine Tree is up there. On Warszawa SW did say "This is a very sad song, but, if you're like me I always find the saddest music is also the most beautiful".

Lacrimosa has some of the most beautiful modern songs I've ever heard. I quite like Sacrifice, Eine Nacht in Ewigkeit, Stumme Worte, Am Ende der Stille, and Hohelied der Liebe.

"Ashokan Farewell," the theme song to "The Civil War," a 1990 PBS documentary. It's one of those heartbreaking violin solos. It's a wonderful, paradoxical mixture: Tremendous feeling of loss, desire, and hope.

Yeah it's a great song. Elbow are one of the best bands of the decade. Their songs are so lovely and melancholy. If you like that song you should check out this.

For some reason their lead singer's voice reminds me of Peter Gabriel.
