Mockingbirds have a natural fear of earplugs, get some and put them in your ears when you are certain the mockingbird can see you doing it.

The Mockingbird with then stop singing.

Actually, you do. Depending on the state, you may not be required to have a license to hunt, but you still need to do it in season. It's considered poaching out of season, private property or not.
