Today I just learned about a relatively new breed of cat (originating in the 1960s) called a "Bengal cat." Apparently, they are a hybrid that was originally created by breeding a species of wild cat with domesticated cats in order to give them an exotic coat similar to a leopard or a jaguar. They are so cute, I want one! I bet they're expensive though...

I found out that there are a couple of related breeds that are bred to resemble other wild cats, like the Ocicat and the Cheetoh. However, the coolest of the offshoot breeds has got to be the Toyger!

Don't you just want to give 'em a squeeze? =^.^=

The same can be said about any cat. They're just waiting until you let your guard down. ;) Seriously though, they are no more dangerous than any house cat. They are fully recognized by The International Cat Association as domesticated house cats. The breed has been around for several decades, and the only hybrids that you have to worry about are first-generation ones, since their genes tend to be very unpredictable. Domesticated hybrids, by cat fancy standards at least, have to be at least third generation.

Umm, yes. Every cat is adorable (except the really ugly ones) I really like bobcats however. My neighbor had a pet bobcat for a little while :D

I was talkign to my friend and one day we plan on going into the SPCA, looking at all the dogs and when we are looking at them we plan on saying things like "Oh that one will taste good." or "That one would cook up nicely." We want to see how long it will be before we're kicked out. (They actually eat dogmeat in some areas of the world.)

bengals are awesome. they looks almost like ocelots.

my personal favourite is the "norweigian forest cat" though. don't know if thats what they're called in english. but if you translate it directly from swedish, that's what you get.

They remind me of my previous cat, only his fur was grey with stripes instead of orange with stripes. Have I had a bengal cat without knowing it? =O

I don't see what's so cool about cats. You a "diva" animal that doesen't really do anything smart for his/her master.

For being a "diva" animal, they're a lot less needy than dogs.

Just proving my point. The average dog is about as useful as a machine that poops in your back yard. Not to mention and studies show that cats help lower people's blood pressure.

Cats can be useful, Loyal and good company aswell. Also you don't need to take them for a walk twice a day even if there's a hurricane outside.

I have 2 cats and 1 dog. They all provide their own company. The 2 cats will sit up on the back of my couch and watch me play while the dog sleeps next to me. They are ALL good, if you treat them nice.

Yes... his point was that dogs can't walk themselves quite as effectively.

I love all kitties, but i think toygers are adorable! If I ever got one though, it would have to be a shelter cat, I buy nothing from breeders, nor will I ever. munchkin cats are also adorable, as are scottish folds

 Anyway, my parents have 2 cats and a dog (technically they're mine too, but only when I'm home). I love dogs, but they are a much better pet for families than single people since they require a lot more attention. If you leave a dog in your apartment all day, he/she gets sad. When you leave a cat in your apartment all day, they could care less. When I have a family I'd love to have both cats and dogs, but if I get a pet when I'm living alone, it'd probably be a cat.

According to this they normally cost $600-$800, but can go up to $2000.

McJugga

That sounds about right. In an article I read about toygers, it said they went for about $800, so I expected that bengals would be in a similar price range.

Once again, they're not dangerous. They are domesticated cats that have inherited the coat of a wild cat. It's not like a wolf dog where you can't be certain about how much of it is wolf and how much of it's dog.

Yeah, they're designer cats, they're purposefully bread to look like that and cost insane amounts, more so the more it looks like a tiger.
