I haven't seen it yet and don't plan on seeing it. Ever since I first saw the trailer and the whole "I AM BEOWULF!" deal I just laughed the movie off. I myself would rather read the actual epic instead of a poorly constructed Hollywood ball of tripe.foxhound_fox
Tripe isn't that bad once you get used to it. If you put enough salt on anything it will taste like fish eventually.
Oh yeah, and I had the same reaction to, "IAMBEOWULF!" It looks like a movie designed for all the rubes that think they're gonna be on UFC and are always like, "Want me to show you this move I learned?" No, thank you.
True, i though the story was too simple and predictable, and the animation was a little off :(L8erSquareYou know it's based on an epic poem from the middle ages, right? :/

You do know that its LOOSELY based off an epic poem from the middle ages right?

whats there bo be loosely based on? the story is as follows:
Beowulf is a badass and kills monsters. period. the movie looks pretty true to me...seeing it next saturday.
As for Beowulf, I don't plan on seeing it. I'm really not interested, felt it was too hyped, and I'm not a fan of Zemeckis and his movies.
How can you people even read the 'novel'? I couldn't even get through the first page, it was so hard to read that old english stuff.-Kirbyangel-
lol it is possible with lots of help with definitions and such.

the original Beowulf was indeed writen in "old english stuff" or anglo-saxon, i did not see the movie but the book was good, or at least what i could make of it. my frinds told me the movie was good. they told me it is like the original book but not quite. what i could remember is a man that killed three dragons.

The peom is three different short stories, him vs Grendel, Grendels mom, and finally a dragon. The movie didnt stick to the peom at all and for those who care to know
in the movie he kills grendel, then goes to kill grendels mom but doesnt, instead he sleeps with her. Then the king of the village kills himself and gives Beowulf his power. Years later Beowulfs son who he had with grendels mom comes trying to kill him, Beowulf dies fighting and killing him. In the Poem Beowulf kills grendel, then his mom, The king of village lives. Beowulf goes home, and then years later a guy steals a cup from a dragon, dragon gets mad, Beowulf and another brave hero kill the dragon and Beowulf dies. The movie is LOOSELY based on the poem.
no the 3 monsters all represent 1 enemy only an epic hero like beowulf can beat because it sets beowulf up as the hero. all 3, grendel, his mom and dragon represent the dangers and evils of the world and how the world is a hostile place to the survival of mankind. therefore, the whole point of the story could be interpreted as "Beowulf- the epic hero representing survival and the values of his people is strong enough to conqure a hostile world".
so...unless the movie depicts beowulf as some sort of pansy, then it stays true to the theme of the original poem.

I dont want the theme to be the same, i want the story to be the same. And yes this movie does make him seem very weak at parts. Yes he is still this great hero but he makes some huge mistakes, and seems, at parts, weak.
