this is my top 3:D

1. Rings around the world- Super Furry Animals

This album is sorta like the white album of our generation, it mixes so many genres together in one album. The rest of the albums by the super furry animals are all great but this one is the best of them all.

2. In Absentia- Porcupine Tree

Porcupine tree's best album by far, it mixes in many different themes and emotions that might be a little disturbing at times.

3. Leaders of the free world- Elbow

Elbow is a very underrated band, they sound like a mixture of coldplay and radiohead only their lead singer sounds like a bit like Peter Gabriel.

muse-Origin of symmetry. or anything with muse, just my opinion...

that's about it, not many good bands these day unfortunately. I would have said OK computer but I just remembered that came out by the turn of the decade.

1. The National- Boxer

Simply put, I've listened to it every day for the past 6 or so months. It's that good.

2. Arcade Fire- Funeral

I know it's cool to hate on the Arcade Fire these days, but they're the indie-rock darlings they are for a reason.

3. LCD Soundsystem- Sound of Silver

It's like the Reese's of music; who knew dance and rock would go together so well?

Honourable Mentions: Holy ****- (Self Titled); K'naan- The Dusty Foot Philosopher; Radiohead- Kid A; The White Stripes- White Blood Cells; TV on the Radio- Return to Cookie Mountain; DFA 1979- You're a Woman, I'm a Machine

Or maybe they have opinions of their own, and have expanded their musical tastes outside the common spectrum.

Best albums 2000 to now?

1. Explosions in the Sky - Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever
2. Radiohead - Kid A
3. Explosions in the Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place
4. The Arcade Fire - Funeral
5. Matthew Good Band - The Audio of Being
6. Low - Drums and Guns
7. Low - Things We Lost in the Fire
8. Sigur Ros - ()
9. Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica
10. Broken Social Scene - S/T
11. Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it In people
12. Beirut - Gulag Orkestar
13. Black Mountain - In The Future
14. Sigur Ros - Takk...
15. Wolf parade - Apologies To The Queen Mary
16. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
17. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
18. The Shins - Oh, Inverted World
19. Grizzly Bear - Yellow House
20. Kid Commando - Holy Kid Commando

At least, according to the top 200 albums of all time list I did back in May. Some things have changed, such as 'Apologies..." being higher on the list, and "Oh, Inverted World" taking a bit of a fall.

Boxer is an incredible album. It's quickly risen in my rankings. So has "Alligator", an their earlier effort from them(which is just a bit off Boxer's pace, if only because of awkward sequencing in Alligator).

Actually, I never really got much into The National, but they gave a show earlier this year opening for Broken Social Scene and I have to say it was an amazing show, and now I really like them and listen to them regularly.

In Rainbows had a few iffy tracks in "House of Cards" and "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi", but what really sets the album in a positive spin were "Videotape", "Reckoner", "Nude", and "All I need". In fact, Videotape is IMHO among the best album finishers ever...likely up there in the second tier with 'Colorado" by Grizzly Bear, and "Darkness on the Edge of Town" by Bruce Springsteen.

People tend to hate on HTTT way too much, from what I've heard. it was a very consistent, solid album.

Heimdalsgate Like a Prometheus Curse. Not only is a song about depression totally appropriate for marriage, but you can shake your ass on the dancefloor to it.

I would certainly use "Magic Hours" by Explosions in the Sky.

I know I'd certainly enjoy "Your Hand in Mine"(as I feel it's probably the most beautiful piece of music recorded that I've heard), but I like tossing a wrench in tradition. :P "Magic Hours" is an excellent piece. I like "Glittering Blackness" a tiny bit more off that album, but...really, EitS don't make bad music. Even their semi-improvisational "The Rescue" was excellent.

You really should. This decade has been incredible in terms of quality if you look for it. I'd wager better than the 90's, certainly better than the 80's(even though I dearly love new-wave), and probably only a little bit off the 70's.

You should get the album Schoolyard ghosts by No Man, that has some really beautiful music on it. No Man is Steven Wilson from porcupine tree's spin off band. One of his many.

this is my top 3:D

Film-Guy

Porcupine Tree? Seriously? I think it's pretty well known that Queensryche blows them out of the water even now, without Chris DeGarmo. As for my top 3,

1. Tempest - Balance

2. Dio - Magica

3. Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers

You know, Parachutes was a really good album. I don't know what went wrong.

Oh yeah, their egos blew up and they decided to lose that sincerity that shone in their debut. At least Viva la Vida is eons better than X&Y, although they've got a bit to go before getting back to Parachutes level.

[QUOTE="kayn83"]probably QotSA's Songs for the Deaf, it came out in 2002 and it still is amazinglaughingman42

That is hands down the best album released so far this millennium.

yeah lmao, i knew i'd find some more qotsa fans lmao

I have a 6 disc CD changer in my car and SFTD hasnt left it since I got the car nearly 2 years ago.

well you have No One Knows, Go With the Flow and First it Giveth (the singles) that put the album on the map. But also Millionaire is so flipping heavy and Song for the Dead with that awesome drum opening. Plus solid songs like Do it Again and Gonna Leave You. Hell, the whole album blows me away lmao

this is my top 3:D

Lord__Darkstorn

Porcupine Tree? Seriously? I think it's pretty well known that Queensryche blows them out of the water even now, without Chris DeGarmo. As for my top 3,

1. Tempest - Balance

2. Dio - Magica

3. Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Yeah seriously, Queensryche are pretty good but they really dont grab me much. I think Porcupine tree are have much more interesting songs.

By the Wayby Red Hot Chili Peppers, but then again . . .

. . . I may have a tiny obsession with them. :P

Jaks_Secret

I agree. It had me at "Universally Speaking" and kept me with "Venice Queen".

"Tear" is probably my favorite track off the album. It's really moving, and the solo is just amazing.

The three to five part harmonies during the chorus are incredible. Downright beatlesque.

I have to agree with this one, I really like Porcupine Tree, especially their earlier works. But still the latest albums are good as well.

Their early stuff is so different, very trippy at times. I really liked Fear of a blank planet though, it was shorter but it was like Wish you were here by pink floyd in how it didnt have many tracks but it was still great.

I know. Oh, and Stadium Arcadium is an excellent album as well. Turn It Again, Hey, Wet Sand, 21st Century, all great tracks from there.

[QUOTE="PBSnipes"]Lockedge, will you marry me? :oops:Film-Guy

I always wondered what song I'd want played at a wedding. I'd imagine"Oh Comely" wouldn't go over well....:P

Oh yeah, you're right, I'd use Your Hand in Mine instead of Magic Hours. Totally forgot about that one.

You should get the album Schoolyard ghosts by No Man, that has some really beautiful music on it. No Man is Steven Wilson from porcupine tree's spin off band. One of his many.

I've only listened to a handful of songs from No Man. There's some great stuff. As far as Porcupine Tree goes, I really really like "Lazarus"
