Best band out of the Big Four? (Thrash Metal)

Out of the Big Four of thrash metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax), which one's your favorite? I'll have to go with Slayer, since I admire their dark, violent lyrics (and the Satanic themes), plus Tom Araya's amazing voice.

What about you guys?

Are we talking best, taking entire careers into account? Or best of the golden age of pre-death thrash metal?

The best according to the albums they made during the 80s. It's a shame as to how Anthrax aren't mentioned as much as the other bands, considering how good Among the Living was.

Overall SLayer has been the most consistent, though if I were to choose from them judging by only their 80's catalogue it would be way harder. Slayer are the best live as well.

Dammit! I'm torn between Slayer and Megadeth.

I picked Metalica because it's the only one I know isn't full of horrid "I'm so dark and brooding and awesome venting my anger" screaming and growling.

Metallica all the way. THey may not be as good as they were once, but it's hard to ignore all the amazing stuff they did back in the day.

Anthrax > Megadeth > Slayer = Metallica.

That being said, they all had some great stuff.

I voted for Slayer by the way. It was either them or Metallica.

Megadeth, any day of the week for me. I was lucky enough to see 3 of them live (minus Anthrax but I'm not a huge fan of them) and they were all amazing. But c'mon, Megadeth's Rust In Peace is the best Metal CD of all time. Even better than Masters. And unlike Metallica, they never sucked hardcore for years.

It's no shock Metallica will win any vote though, they're the most "radio friendly" of the four.

Metallica. I know they peaked during the 80s but I actually liked them more in the mid-late 90s with their new haircut and the release of Load, and Re-load.

I once made MegaDave cry and walk off the stage. He was adamant he'd kick my ass and then he b!tchquit for about 20 mins.

I've always liked Anthrax the most: they've been the most consistent to thrash metal and their songs are always catchy. Love their album 'Persistence of Time'.

My favourite thrash band's Toxik. the big four are great but it's annoying that many people have never heard of anything else thrash-related.

I really dig Slayer, but of those 4 I'll take Anthrax everyday all day. Among the Living ftw.

Slayer's first four are untouchable.... although since then they have sucked. Megadeth has RiP and Peace Sells and has actually put out decent music recently.... Metallica have only 2 good albums and Anthrax has been absolutely abysmal since 1990.... Guess I'll go with Slayer.
