Saving Private Ryan was able to be not only a very realistic portrayal of D-Day (first 30 minutes), but war in general, with a touching plot and great characters to boot.

Any other D-Day movies that provide a similar satisfaction and intensity, like Saving Private Ryan?

Band of Brothers is a 10-part mini series directed by Spielburg and Tom Hanks. Each episode is as good as Saving Private Ryan, if not better.

Nothing on D-Day is as intense as Saving Private Ryan, but there was a movie in the 30's called All Quiet on the Western Front that was freakin brutal, like violent even for today's standards. Very Guerilla style All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) don't watch the 1979 version. Btw it's a WWI movie

Its not directed by Hanks or speilberg. I think they serve as the executive producers or creatores. Basicly, the money flow and ideas :)

There was a movie around the same time as Saving Private Ryan called "Thin Red Line", that was about the Pacific War in Japan during WWII, you would like it if you liked Saving Private Ryan.

The Longest Day. It's a great film, but it was made in 1962, so it doesn't have the "intensity" of SPR.

it wasnt that realistic they showed it as being like two bunkers.

That's because it was focusing on a platoon attacking a certain sector of Omaha. It wasn't suppose to focus the other 4 sectors of Omaha.

I suggest you watch enemy at the gates, it doesn't take place in D-Day but it's based on the russian front and the protagonist in the movie is a Russian sniper. It's a very good movie with lots of great action scenes.

Was just about to say that. Truly a classic film and one of the greatest war movies ever made.

This man speaks the truth. All Quiet on the Western Front is the best war movie of all time. I loved it even more than Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers combined. The story is timeless. The anti-war messages still stand up today. And the German perspective is still something rarely done in films today, which I feel dissapointed about, as there are many overlooked German heroes that don't get their stories told just because they lost the war. There's a reason it won the Academy Award. There's a reason the novel is part of the high school curriculum. It is the single greatest piece of media based on a war ever created.

And to go against those who are recommending Enemy at the Gates, I'd highly suggest to not take that film seriously. Sure, it's a decent violent popcorn flick, but the history is distorted, and the acting is horrible. Jude Law really ruined the movie in my opinion. And what's worse is, the Russians all have British accents. If you were just listening to the movie, you'd think the battle was in El Alamein, not Stalingrad.

I don't know any as brutal, but I do know of "The Longest Day" that I believe took a good look on all the beach landings including "Pointe du Hoc". Even for an old film I liked it. I think it may have been one of Sean Connery's first films.
