Well, can't beat a book with the reflected-sounds-of-underground-spirits in it, so I'll go with The Colour of Magic.Zagrius
What does that actually mean? I have run through it hundreds of times in my head and can't get it.
Having all of them, I have to say that Guards, Guards! is my favourite one, although if you're looking for rincewind...
The colour of magic/ The light fantastic - The first two books follow on from each other, after that, the novels are discrete stories. These books have rincewind and twoflower in them.
Sourcery
Faust - eric
Interesting Times
The Lost Continent
The Last Hero - Graphic novel
Those are the Rincewind featuring ones. I also reccomend: Mort, Reaper Man, Moving Pictures and Going Postal.
Hope thats enough!
Are you talking about Terry Pratchet's Discworld books? Although I love fantasy, the only one I've remotely read is Monstrous Regiment. wslacker2Yes. I should have perhaps stated that in the title or first post. How did you like what you read?
Witches Abroad is my favourite, but you can't really go far wrong with Discworld.
Did anyone hear about Terry Pratchett being diagnosed with Alzheimer's, BTW?

Yes, I remember reading about that. Its quite sad.
Yeah, he's got alzheimer's, he's gonna keep writing though. Favorite is Night Watch, followed by Sourcery.
Edit: Hell, they're all damn good. I've even quoted one in my sig.crucifine
 Thats a great quote

Zagrius
It's economics (echo-gnomics). Don't they actually reveal that later in the book, or maybe the next?
I think it's in-sewer-ants (insurance)
Thats just how people in Ankh Morpork say it. Its a while since i read those early books but i think Two Flower was an insurance salesman. You could well be right though, as i say its been a while.
Also, Interesting Times is one of the best books, that or Nightwatch

 My God, so it is! I didn't know it was revealed, I thought that it was just one for the reader to work out. I worked out inn-sewer-ants. I'll have to read the first two again after I finish 'Mostly harmless' - extra points if you know what that novel is from.
You can see that everyone has their favourite. Just read them all :P
Hmm, Mostly Harmless... Probably not by someone with the initials D.A.Zagrius
Of course not! What an outrageous idea! :P
In a totally unrelated-to-the-above note. Towel day 2008 is on the 25th may. You basically have to carry a towel around with you for an entire day as an homage.
Heres a question for all you fans; who is a better character, Rincewind or Sam Vimes?erc500
Vimes, no contest. Thats not to say that Rincewind isn't a legend either.
Personally I like Rincewind better... Vimes is too competent. ;)ZagriusI love Rincewind from the game I had. Thats why I want a book that focuses on him more. Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys. Keep it up :)
Oh, another great book, though sadly Rincewind-free, is Small Gods.
And though a bit late, I also really like some of the Discworld-isms, like that play on Franklins saying 'Early to rise and early to bed makes a man healthy, wealthy and dead', and that one about multiple exclamation points being a mark of a disturbed mind or somesuch (by the way, I would recommend the book that has that saying, but I don't recall what it was about... Maybe it was Reaper Man? I seem to recall something about undead people and monsters in a union or somesuch).
Vimes is a great character, I'll agree (maybe my 3rd or 4th favourite). But come on, Rincewind has 'Wazzard' written on his hat!Zagrius
Do you read american versions of the books? I'd heard there were differences between british and amrican releases. Rincewind's hat says "Wizzard" in the british versions. I wonder what else is different
Personally i think wizzard is better because Rincewind is not so stupid to spell it with an A but he is certainly careless and useless enough at wizarding to add an extra Z.
Did you ever see the made for TV version of Hogfather?
erc500
Yes, they managed to make an incredibly witty and smart book into something boring and infantile.
If you really want something about Rincewind I'd recommend "Interesting Times", though "The Colour of Magic" is a very good introduction to the Discworld universe.
Has anyone ever read "The Science of Discworld"? it's not as anoraky as it sounds, but is in fact a very well written science book for the layperson and a very funny Discworld story. It should be required reading for creationists, as any one still remotely capable of rational thought would quickly see the error of their ways.

I really like the original, The Colour of Magic, being made for Sky with the man himself David Jason *salutes*
I also liked Theif of Time, but it's sadly sans Rincewind.

That was Masquerade. When granny Weatherwax goes to the opera. They deduce that the phantom is mad. "Three exclamation marks. The sign of a deranged mind."
Incidentally, the trophy of best character goes to death. I love how he TALKS LIKE THIS.
I remember reading that sign of a deranged mind saying about the whole mall-parasite fiasco.Zagrius
That was from 'Reaper Man' written before 'Masquerade'. I remember now, it was in reference to the "SALE!!!!" signs around the mall.
