Do you use free anti virus software? What's the best in your opinion? I myself know of AVG Free, Avast Free, Microsoft Security Essentials, and Comodo and would like to know which one OT deems best as well as why. If you use none of the aforementioned options, feel free to list other free alternatives with a short explanation as to why you use them over the others.

Unless you had to register the product by inserting the license key on it. I'm had been using this software ago since my desktop pc was using win vista before the biggest destruction of viruses came to pc when avast is doesn't stop worms from being infected. Now the desktop pc is using avira antivirus.

I really like MSE. So lightweight and streamlined. It's tough to beat 2.5MB of usage for active defense.

Through a ISP when offered. McAfee's detection rate is surprisingly high. If only the program wasn't a resource hog with a tendency to corrupt itself, then it would be usable.

I got it free with my internets. I've never had it corrupt itself or hog my resources though. :?

I use Microsoft security essentials and Norton. I know that Microsoft doesn't really catch most viruses and Trojans so Norton cleans up after it.

I thought Norton is looked down upon by the geek community. Also, isn't it generally advisable to not have two pieces of anti virus software running on the same computer?

i like avast. its simple, unobtrusive (big word, i know, lol) and it stops viruses well. this paired up with malware bytes anti-malware to kill ANYTHING that gets through the anti virus is awesome. AVG is good too, but i still prefer avast.

Yea but Norton and my Security Essentials haven't had any problems with each other. As for it being looked down upon I wouldn't know anything about that. Its been good to me and my computer has stayed virus free.

I use Avast whenever I use Windows. AVG is fine but it actually let a few viruses through whereas Avast seems to catch much more.

Norton used to suck, but made an incredible comeback in 2009 with a completely rebuilt engine that is extremely lightweight with above average virus detection. With that, I'm sticking with MSE.

No, you don't want two AV programs on your machine. Doing so may cause severe impairment of your computer's functionality.

AVG is another program that used to be great, but has sucked for the past few years. It's a resource hog that has a questionable detection rate.

Online Armor is excellent iirc, but I'm not so sure what its future will look like now that Tall Emu has been bought by another company.

Unless you go to torrent sites and download very low rep torrents, you shouldn't have virus problems, if a site looks legit, it usually is. Plus, AVG has detected all the viruses in the low rep torrents...that my friend downloaded and they were disposed of.

Pretty dang expensive though especially since we have 4 PCs. We're looking to switch AV once our license expires. Great AV though.
