Out of those choices, Metal Gear. If it wasn't weighed down I'd say Super Mario Bros. on the NES and SNES.

I'm sorry, but SOCOM, Halo, and GTA do not even belong in the discussion in my mind. Zelda deserves mention, as does Mario and Panzer Dragoon.

Halo shouldn't even be in any "best" poll..... I voted Final Fantasy but close behind would be GTA, Gran Turismo, Tiger Woods and NFL 2K(x).

There is a voting about this subject on another board. I think Zelda at the moment has more then 3 times the amount of votes of the 2nd and 3th, which are Metroid and Mario. Anyway I'm not voting cause I prefer Zelda, the elder scroll, KOTOR and Prince of Persia ^^

The Legend of Zelda deserves its rightful place on that list, plus a few other series and minus socom. I chose MGS, out of those... Grand Theft Auto has a close second...

#5 Valhalla
------------------------------------------------------
I can almost guarantee that every single person reading this has no idea what this game is, what it is about or why it has made my top 20 games of all time list. Some of you may call me insane or laugh it off or just simply be puzzled as to what this game actually is. Valhalla is a series of 12 adventures that see you progressing through a series of dungeons while completing puzzles and tasks along the way. It’s one of those games that can be absolutely frustrating but once you finally figure out that key thing to progress to the nest puzzle or the next level can be positively rewarding. This isn’t for the casual gamer in the sense that if you do not have a logical brain and cannot solve some pretty clever puzzles you won’t be getting very far at all. This game also adds elements of comedy which at times can bring a wry smile to your face, it may have some basic 2D graphics but you have to remember this game originated on the Amiga. I would spend hours with my parents playing these games, we would sit there solving the puzzles together and then when I became a little more adept to how the games played I would have bets to see who could finish the next quest the fastest. Truth be told my parents always used to beat me but it was still fun none-the-less, I even bought this collection of games for the PC not so long back which have been beautifully restored and play just as good as ever. If you have not tried these games I recommend them with my full enthusiasm and can only say do not judge a game before you play it.

#4 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

This is undoubtedly the best extreme sports gaming series ever made, it completely redefined the genre with its solid controls and superior trick system. Anyone who argues with it’s positioning in my chart has clearly never played a Tony Hawks game from start to finish. I remember first playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater at a friends house, he had “borrowed” it off his cousin indefinitely and wanted to show-off his awesome skateboarding skills which I now come to realize weren’t that awesome. However great the first game was the developers didn’t just rest on their morals and ride the success of the first game. They made the 2nd in the series even better than the first and then the 3rd even better again, adding new game components along the way. I think my fondest memories come from Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3, that’s when with the help of my friend I began to string million combos together and really develop a deep appreciation of what I could actually get out of these games. During its 10 year reign the Tony Hawks Pro Skater series has taken the gaming world by storm time and time again, but make no mistake, it hasn’t finished yet.

#3 Mario Kart
------------------------------------------------------
Take Mario and all his favourite Nintendo friends, put them in karts and place some pretty zany courses in front of them and you essentially have a formula for success. I cannot imagine anyone reading this to have not given Mario Kart a bash at least once in their gaming lives. Whether it was back on the SNES, playing as Koopa Troopa and bouncing around Rainbow Road like you was a gaming god or you bought Mario Kart DS and enjoyed creaming random racers on Wi-Fi. Whatever way you play Mario Kart you just know you are going to enjoy it, doesn’t matter if it’s with friends or on your own, battle or grand prix, race or time trial. Some of you may be expecting my favourite moment of the Mario Kart series now but in all honesty I cannot give you it. There are just so many to name, one comes to the forefront of my memory and then another great moment takes its place. All those times having multiplayer mayhem sessions with my friends, all those times playing the Gameboy equivalents through link cables, all those times having crazy Block Fort battles all add up to one huge gaming experience. I know the Mario Kart series has fallen under a lot of criticism for being too easy and a little too familiar and that is why I was so happy when Mario Kart DS shut the critics up. It gave users a real challenge and on top of that implemented new modes and new ideas such as the manual blowing of your balloons during battles that were just genius. Mario Kart is usually my sole reason for buying consoles, my Gamecube and my DS are certainly victims of my love for these games and this is one of the many reasons this enters my top 3 games of all time.

#2 Gran Tursimo

Controversial? Well perhaps but I do believe Gran Turismo is the best racing game of all time. Better than Diddy Kong Racing, better than Project Gotham Racing and better than Mario Kart but only just. This game brings realism to whole new levels, it pushes the graphical capabilities of it’s games and then goes one step further to bring you a driving simulator that many have attempted to emulate and failed at time and time again. Making its debut on the original Playstation against competition from games such as Ridge Racer was not an easy task but Gran Turismo succeeded. Gran Turismo 2 however is when the series really started to deliver and was not only competing with the likes of Ridge Racer but surpassing them in every area. It’s hard for me to decide which game I liked better out of Gran Turismo 2 or 3 because both have their strengths, Gran Turismo 2 was revolutionary in so many ways, it added so many things racing games were lacking up to that point. Gran Turismo 3 was just pure quality and almost the perfect racing game. Gran Turismo 4 while the most polished game of the bunch didn’t quite add enough new features to make it my favourite but it still maintains the high quality that comes with the Gran Turismo name. There are so many great moments to choose from when thinking back but my favourite would have to be a sunny afternoon the summer after Gran Turismo 3 came out, I was doing one of the many endurance races these games have to offer. It was a 2 hour race I completed with the Audi TT Quattro and a great feeling just swept over me while I was playing it, I just remember it being one of the best feelings I have experienced in my life. Another great moment would be the day I bought the Escudo Pikes Peak from Gran Turismo 2, I remember taking the day off school because I was sick, no honest I was!!. Went to my friends house and we spent the whole day doing race after race, I think we did about 200 in total until we had enough for this beast of a car. Fantastic moment and worth all of those man hours, unfortunately this car has been much easier to obtain in the last two installments. Gran Turismo is pure quality and it just sparkles with excellence, I know many racers like Forza are attempting to knock Gran Turismo from the top spot but in all honesty I believe they are failing miserably. Judging by the Gran Turismo 5 previews it appears they are going to push the boundaries of the racing genre once again and set the standard the others will no doubt attempt to follow.

#1 Pro Evolution Soccer

We finally come to it, my greatest gaming series of all time. Pro Evolution Soccer revolutionized the genre in so many ways, bringing in the best gameplay mechanics and the most accurate ball physics ever seen in a sporting video game. You never quite score the same goal twice in Pro Evolution Soccer and the way you approach each game actually has an influence on what happens on the pitch unlike its competitors whose gameplay and replay values are almost laughable in comparison. The Pro Evolution Soccer series has given me hours upon hour’s worth of joy whether it is on my own in the wee hours of the morning obtaining that all important next trophy or having a tournament with a bunch of my friends for some elusive trophy. This is just a series of games you never get bored with no matter how often you play them and they seem to improve with every installment released, adding new thing’s that just amaze and astound everyone who has the honor of picking up a controller and experiencing the game of football like it has never been played before. I don’t think any other game even comes close to the amount of hours I have dedicated to enjoying and experiencing what this series has to offer, I am still learning new techniques and skills which help to improve my game every single day. There are many moments I can recollect but I will not bore you with them all, perhaps one of the most memorable was a game of two legs I played with my friend. He was 4-0 up after the first leg and it was not looking good for me, scoring 4 goals in the next game just did not look plausible. I did however go on to make up that 4 goal deficit and win that game in extra time. It is one of my greatest gaming moments of my life and I will never forget it. Other such moments are a 5 man tournament I had in my bedroom with some close friends, we were playing for a small plaque and it went right down to the wire. The top 3 players all ended up on level points and it was only goal difference that sealed victory for one of my friends, this inspired other such tournaments to take place and many other great memories were formed as a result. Well I have blabbered on quite enough but what I do need to say before bringing my top 20 greatest games of all time to an end is thank you Konami for bringing my favourite game to life in ways I never thought possible.

Out of that list, definatly Metal Geeeeaaar. It's got the best story and great gameplay and is just amazing in every way!

But the list is a bit... meh. My fav game series are

Grand Theft Auto is the best game series. Metal Gear Solid is overrated, its all videos and almost no gameplay. I could beat MGS2 in 2 or 3 hours if I skipped all the videos. The only fun part about the whole Metal Gear Solid series was the part on the boat at the beginning of MGS2.
