I would say the evil dead, halloween, night of the living dead, texas chainsaw massacre and Demons are the best.

Depends on your definition of horror, but I think The Blair Witch Project gets an automatic nomination.

The Blair Witch Project easily. Expenses: Most likely less than $1000. Income: Millions and millions of dollars. Plus the movie was pretty good as well.

How could that not be horror? Blair Witch wins. It made $11,000 for every $1 that was spent to make it. Night of the Living Dead is up there too.

I guess some could claim it's just suspense... I think it's horror, though, so let's not fight. :)
